Actually looks like a decent panel. Did some reading myself and looks like it is a rebranded Samsung.

Might have to talk the GF into going in on one with me :D

Thank god school started. Now it's really easy to talk myself out of one for the bedroom. Well, school and the fact the gf wouldn't ever turn it off in there so I'd be kept awake all night lol.

It is a rebadged Samsung & it's a great display. Sure, it only has 2 HDMI ports & no VGA connection, but it produces a great picture. Just bought one 2 weeks ago & went in yesterday to get my additional $30 credit (paid $430 2 weeks ago).

This is an awesome display for a bedroom or for anyone with a budget of <$550. It supports 1080p on BR & 1080i on OTA HD cable channels.

How can it support 1080p but only on bluray?

Scaling down or not, this display looks phenomenal, either when displaying a 1080i or 1080p signal. I've only tried BR movies, hence the acceptance of the 1080p signal. Check it out for yourselves.

Go to your local BB & ask them to hook up a BR player to it & be your own judge. If you read through the reviews on the BB site, you'll see several references to this display accepting & displaying a 1080p signal. I watched LOTR on it last night & compared to my 58" 1080p Samsung, it didn't look scaled down to my eyes.

Just ordered and am sending the wife to pick it up. Trusting you guys, sight unseen. Considering it'll be replacing a 10+ year old 32" GE, I think it will be better than fine.

Throw some HD (1080i or 1080p) content on that bad boy & you'll see what all the hype's about.

LOL....42 inches is not exactly light....if she does bring it in, she deserves the beer....
You, Sir, have gone to meddling.

Edit: She just called. Can't lift it. Guess a 50lb t.v. whipped her 105lb butt.

I picked one up today. I am very satisfied with it. For a $400 TV, it sure looks nice, and it's a good size upgrade from our 32" Sony LCD (which can now be moved to another room, awesome). Nothing about it makes you feel like it's a cheapo TV. The packaging, printed materials, etc. are all pretty good quality. The box is great -- pull 4 tabs and then lift off the top. Really nice! The pseudo-720p resolution doesn't matter a whole lot -- my only HD source is my Xbox 360. Of course 720p is more noticeable on a 42" than on a 32", but that's how it goes. Now our seating is a lot more flexible, and we can move the couches a little further back.

Oh, and it is a pretty big box. Not heavy, but definitely very big in the width dimension. I'm 6'1 and my arms couldn't quite reach the handles to carry it comfortably by myself. I could drag it, or get one hand one one handle and the other on the opposite corner of the box, but not both handles. I can definitely see a smaller person not being able to carry it. It *barely* fit into the backseat of my Saturn SL. (Apparently plasmas are not supposed to be turned on their sides?) I had to roll down the window on one side to let the top corner of the box poke out.

From what I've read, & I don't own a 360, but I believe the 360 upscales all 720p signals to 1080p on 1080p capable displays. So, if this is true, if you click the Display button while playing a 360 game, your display should indicate it's 1080p material.

I'm sure the 360 experts here will chime in & confirm whether or not this is true. What I do know is, the PS3 doesn't do this. My brother has both & says the 360 does.

Curious, does that monitor use IPS panel?

I thought IPS was just a type of LCD screen, not Plasma screens?

How does this TV sound? I'm interested (it fits my tight budget) and will be in a city Monday where the Best Buy store has this TV in stock. I might just have to replace my old tube TV.
