400 FSB and memory question.

What kind of memory do you need to have 400 Mz FSB.

PC3200 is 200MHz (400MHz DDR) spec.

If you're looking at running a 200MHz FSB, I'd recommend Corsair XMS3200 Cas2 memory. Or, if you've got that much $$$ lying around, the XMS3500 Cas2 memory.

I'm assuming it's a P4 system? It's really the chipset that will dictate what kind of memory you need. Depeding on what motherboard you get, you may need plain ol' SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, or RDRAM. Optimally, if you want to utilize the speed of the FSB then you should go with PC800 RDRAM assuming you won't be overclocking or running the FSB and memory bus asychronously.

Crucial.com will list it for most motherboards, by model#. For mine, they listed both PC2100 and PC2700. PC2100 will always work, but will be slower than PC2700. You can always run faster memory, as the chipset on the motherboard will dictate speed. I would not buy anything slower than PC2700, as memory is always getting faster. If you can afford it, buy PC3200 and you may not have to upgrade memory next time.
