$400 for a **** student visa?

So, I'm studying abroad in Australia in the fall. They instruct on the visa website to have my CC ready for a nominal charge. I'm thinking like $50 for the manpower of processing it. After spending 30 minutes stating that I have not committed any crimes against humanity (their wording) and owe no debts to the Commonwealth, they ask me for a card on which to charge $400! What could cost that much (besides the exploitation of foreigners)?

I mean, it's not like it's a work visa that they're trying to make money off of me in exchange to work there. I'm a student supporting and enriching their universities. Yeah, I guess it's supply and demand, but this is about an extra week's summer pad the wallets of a bureaucracy.

As you supposed, they are exploiting foreigners. The US doesn't charge $400 for a visa, but they have no problem charging a couple hundred bucks for the adjudication of a form, which takes them several minutes to gloss over and approve.

Little did I know my rant would turn into an infidelity thread.

They have an option to have the fee waived b/c of financial need, but then says you have to have your entire study sponsored by the Australian Government (not even your home University). Sheesh.

You obviously don't know much about Australian Universities (not all that enriched on their own )

Too late. You can't apply and find out the cost of the visa until you've paid your tuition and gotten a reference number from the university.

No, he kinda has it correct. That's why many universities have pseudo-quotas in place for minority students.

Dude it's $400. It sucks. But it's the price you pay. Just suck it up and have the time of your life. You won't think about the $400 once you get there.

Hey, that ain't bad compared to what U.S has been doing.
When someone applies for a U.S visa,

U.S government will
make you pay $150
take finger prints
ask for all types of document you can possibly imagine(which is very time/money consuming)

and you also have to go through an interview(more like an investigation) which they will treat you like a criminal. Even worse, when you enter U.S, you have to notify your residental stat. every time you move.
There're many other issues beside those and I guess U.S government isn't quite satisfied with those as they're,soon, going to take DNA information as well.

Oh and Internation students usually receive warm welcome messages such as "Get out of my country. You <interst any racial slur> are taking Americans job". It's quite annoying when you think about it. International students pay A LOT more tuition and does not get any kind of social benefit from the goverment. I was there helping U.S economics. I probably supported U.S governemtn more by paying sales tax than those "Get out of my country" people's income tax.

No it's not about that, it's about the fact that you're using their tax supported secondary education system. It's the same for a foreign student that wants to go to school in the states.
