Basically I want to move from 22" screen with student like arrangement of desk and computer chair sitting 2 feet from the screen to ~40" screen sitting 8 feet away on my sofa. But I figure a 40" PC screen, even if it existed, would be way too expensive, considering 30" PC screens are almost $2000. A friend is using a 32" 1080p TV as their monitor and it's only $500, but I find that too pixelated.

So I did a spreadsheet to compare PPI of various devices, and I don't need cell phone resolution (200+ PPI), or even my current 22" resolution (1680 x 1050 @ 90 PPI) or 30" (2560x1600 @ 101 PPI). But the 32" 1080p TV was too pixelated, and I calculated it to be 69 PPI. So I figured ~80 PPI would be good.

So is there such a screen with specs similar to this?:

40" (2560 x 1600) @ 75 PPI
or 40" (2714 x 1696) @ 80 PPI
or 42" (2671 x 1669) @ 75 PPI
or 42" (2849 x 1781) @ 80 PPI

Thanks,

I think the reason 30" monitors are so expensive is the massive resolution and the fact that most are ips panels.

The first may very well be (beneath it being a small market), but I doubt there's any large TV monitor out there that has a TN panel in it.

Man i think you may be overreacting... I have a 42" 1080P HDTV as a monitor and it looks just fine from 2ft away.

Have you seen the ladies keys in your HDTV from 2 feet away?

Sorry, but what does that mean? What's "the ladies keys"?

I do agree that at 8 feet ppi is far from a problem. In fact at 8 feet I switch to 1360 x 768 on my set so I can read text while closer I use 1920.
