Wow, nice pair of towers for that price! Tempting, I've been looking at some similar Paradigms...

I have an older Set of Paradigm Monitor's, they are drool-tastic! The newer ones are brighter and slightly more detailed compared to the older ones. If paradigm and Cambridge were the same $1,000 per pair the two would come very close, but Paradigm would edge out a small vicotry in midrange and overall sound. For $599, These Cambridge Soundworks Newton Series II are the deifinite winner, nothing else can beat them at this price; Not even Klipsch.

Pretty nice. If I hadn't just bought a pair of PSB Image T65s, I might be interested. :)

In my opinion, Cambridge makes great speakers. But they need more of a Dealer/Retail presence than their current online business model, though I don't think this will change soon because they just closed down their last Massachusetts store. They are just shooting them selves in the foot, by not allowing their potential customers to hear the product before buying.

Television and Speakers are two things that you always need to see in a store before you ever buy them online or in person.

I can't say I fully agree that going only internet direct is bad since there are several other companies who follow the same business model. With the 30 day return policy Cambridge has like many other quality internet direct speaker companies, it gives you a chance to set up the speakers in your home with your equipment and really see if the reviews match what you're expecting instead of a store's set up and environment.

I don't think the online business model is a bad one, especially with most of the major retailers in high end speakers shutting down across the nation (chains, not local shops). It's very hard to even find the speakers you would like to hear even if there is a shop (Magnolia Hi-Fi certainly didn't carry Paradigms that's for sure). The only way to hear a lot of these high end speakers is to order a pair yourself, or if your lucky to live in a city with a shop that can stay in business. I've had to rely on intelligent online reviews of speakers a few times when deciding on what pairs to get. In the end if you like the sound you should be happy with your purchase. Human memory when it comes to sound quality is so piss poor that the only differences you'd even be able to recognize in store would be minor, and once you got home it would never make a difference.

Too bad that they even closed their Needham Outlet Store.

I remember when the first series of Newton Speakers came out. I was able to participate in a 60% off sale and picked-up a 7 speaker plus 500w subwoofer set-up. Great sound for the money.

Paradigm forbids internet sales, instead it relies on a dealer network and usually does not do business with large retail chains, I have several small dealers in my local area.

I would be very hesitant to say that about anything speakers related :p

Summer sale on X-series btw ;)

I had to settle for a pair of Infinity Primus 152s @ ~$120 due to space/noise constraints.

But I'm quite satisfied with it for the most part :)

One of these days I'll get something better...

Erm, I was trying to say that many of the large retailers don't pick up brands like Paradigm, not that Paradigm sold online. My mistake for not wording it properly. They can be purchased at a few locations in the Seattle area, but you have to know where to look (or go to the Paradigm webpage and find out). Either way, I think that Cambridge Soundworks has a good setup on their webpage and it certainly doesn't do them any harm to sell online. Deal is still hot for those interested.

Edit: Or that Paradigm and similar companies aren't willing to deal with large retailers... either way their products aren't found there.

Your edit is correct. About 3 years ago or so, Best Buy tried to pick up Paradigm to sell in it's stores; but Paradigm managent said no to the deal and they wanted to remain loyal to the dealers who gave them such a great reputation in the first place. Best Buy would likely tarnish them.

When I find the interview with Paradigm's founders, I will post it. The article will point to the same things I have already said.

Better Bookshelf Speakers. And Matching EP400 Microsubwoofer. Their Surround Speakers also sound great and take up very little space. And if you have space for it, the Giant EP500 and EP600 Subwoofers can be daisy chained for more powerful sound.

As the old saying goes, "Go with what you know". Trust your gut, that's advice successful people give.
