Wow, thanks for the quick reply RossMAN.

I'd like to keep the total around/under $100 if that's possible. I saw some this week at Costco for $70 and $80, but I wasn't sure if they were junk or not.

I'm basically looking for something durable and easy to use. Does VCR Plus actually work correctly or will it cut off the beginning or end of shows now that the networks stagger them a few minutes each way?

Does that commercial skip really work? That'd be awesome.

Mercata has the PV-V4640 up right now, but not the PV-V4660...they rotate through the models much?

I bought a $1 phone card from mercata ages ago...I wonder if that's going to keep the new customer bonus away from me...heh, probably.

Edit: 4620 I mean, not 4640.

im not knocking you rossman, and you ARE helping people by giving them the link for the 100 mercata bucks for new customers. But i also see that you are getting 20 mercata bucks everytime someone uses that referral link you are emailing to them.....

Again, not a bad try and i would have no problem giving you the referall bonus if I hadn't bought it already, but you could just post it in here and tell them to go to

mercata.com, sign up as a new customer, get the 100 mercata bucks and then go to

http://eshop.msn.com/softcontent/softcontent.asp?scmId=579

and use the mercata link there and make sure they use the "checkout using express passport checkout option" when they buy their item for the additional 20% off from msn passport.......

Dont forget to ebates your order! (www.ebates.com) Then you will get an ADDITIONAL 5% back :> I just picked up the Philips 27" TP2784C Television for ~$240shipped when i factor in the ebates discount :)

Thanks all! Anand rules.

ps. as a side, offtopic question, can anyone advise on a cheap but decent sound setup I should get for this? I dont own any speakers or anything and am not interested in using it for a radio or cdplayer.. Just for nice sound from the TV and mabey my DVD when/if i get around to hooking it up :)

FYI fellas, you CANNOT use ebates on this Mercata deal. If you plan on getting the Holiday Rebate from Microsoft, you have to go through their passport portal. I chatted with a CSR and he told me specifically you had to do that.

Jewelery - My family is quite involved in jewelery. I worked in my aunt's store all last summer and periodically throghout the year. I know jewelery and there is no reason why you should buy it online or retail. In fact I think jewelery is the only thing that comes to mind where I would recommend not buying online. That is even worst than going to a shop in the mall or buying from Sears.

hey syg,
The way I was able to use ebates was as follows.
1) Signed up for new mercata acct off main mercat a.com acct and $100 was deposited in it
2) Signed up for new passport account with the wallet option at the site mentioned in a prev post. Note: I found it necessary to make sure 'automatic login' for passport was enabled otherwise i got java errors in #7.

3) Went to the ebates page, clicked through to mercata.
4) Adding item to my shopping cart
5) Choose Check-out
6) Enter mercata user-id and password
7) Choose Passport express-checkout
8) Confirm everything.
9) Confirm some more - note: Ebates banner should still be flying overhead :> And BOTH discounts (mercata bux and 20% holiday rebate) show up on invoice.
10) Done

I guess i cant promise you will get the ebates, but it cant hurt (as you still get both 20% rebates).

Good point sitzman. I'm doing the same thing.

The only question is whether to buy the Palm IIIxe or the HP Jornada 548.

Yes, they're both back :D

Anyone notice the Jornada 548 on Mercata says;

Modem Included: Yes

On the HP product sheet, no modem is included. So what is Mercata talking about ? I'll bet there is not a modem included. You have to buy them seperately.

some of these DVD players are pretty hot deals as well. the Pioneer 434 for about $150 is good, and so is the 3-disc Pioneer DVD changer w/ 5.1 built in that they have there for about $185 after everything.
these are even better deals than the old VA dollar days.

I also wanted to add in this bit:

If you've already signed up for Mercata a little while ago and DID NOT use your mercata bucks at the time, you can call mercata up and they'll manually credit you 20% of your item price (up to $100). Hope that helps anyone, it helped me out anyway.

Which category are you guys/gals finding these Toshiba laptops under? That Toshiba P3/700 with DVD for $1200 would have been SMOKIN' hot but I don't have any money left.

Xzaver - Nice find on the DreamCast, must resist temptation, must resist. Do they have any decent racing games like Gran Turismo, Need for Speed, Daytona USA, Driver, Driver2?

Actually I max'd out my Mercata referral dollars to $500 earlier this year, bummer they have a cap on $500.
