I'm on the verge of giving up most gaming.
Go indie or go home, I say.

Also, never pre-purchase, never buy on release, never buy a game at full price not knowing whether you're gonna like it.

That's the way of a true gamer.

not to detail the thread as this should probably be its own.

If they are going to offer "Free DLC" why not just have it in the game? Now It's a bunch of extra stuff I need to download and make sure it properly installed.

What would you have, them nickle and dime you for every dlc? no that how it is now and that is the wrong way to treat dlc.

While yes, if the dlc had be complete at release it should be in game, but offering it free is the better alternative. If Wither3 was release by EA or Ubisoft, you could almost be sure that each of these dlc release would be 5 dollars a piece

Also, how can you comment on the expansions when they haven't even been released? What if they add level cap increases?

That how I remember Expansion packs of old, you would usually get a decent amount of content, 15+ hours, plus as part of it usually a level cap increase, think old Baldur's Gate 1 and 2

Gotta say I disagree with your points.

that's fine, personally I like how CDPR is doing the dlc

I would have them wait until the game is actually finished before releasing it.

Just like every other major game, it's taken several Day One, Day Two, Day Three patches to get the game up and running in an acceptable state.

Why does CDPR get a pass for pulling the same type of stuff EA/Activision do?

Acting entitled to DLC. Oh how naive and blind YOU are. You are exactly why companies do what they do. No offense meant, we both like games, but seriously you defend this practice? It is deliberate and planned out. It is not "oh hey lets do this" at the last minute. It is INTENTIONAL. It is meant to screw over the pokemon crowd.

In addtion you have this nonsense getting worse:

I play the games and don't care what they add or release later. If it's good I'll get that too. If it isn't worth it I don't buy it. It really is that simple.

I wonder if people understand that games today are costing companies upwards of 100mil to develop. They need to make a profit and releasing more content for a game is one way to do it. Also, despite what you might think a lot of developers are deeply passionate about their game and want to continue working on it after it is finalized and up for sale. Many developers are very much attached to the characters and world they create.

The level cap will increase. That was announced before. You can max your character to the extent of the product you purchased. In witcher 3 you can go to lv70. Is that not enough? Good grief the game is over 100hours if you do absolutely everything it offers. That's not enough for you?

Also the dlc they have been releasing is mostly optional stuff. Like hair cuts and a different look for Yennifer. This stuff was developed after the game went final. They sat on the game for years and pushed it back enough. If you want all that stuff on day one you'd almost never get a release date at all.

True gamer...lol. No such thing. Either you play games or you don't. Personally I like to play games when they are new before everything is spoiled and while talking about it on forums is still a hot topic.

Cause they aren't doing any of the stuff activision and EA do with their games that draws ire. They aren't offering new suits of armor for 5 bux nor making you drink a gallon of mt dew to get game codes for bonus xp. There also isn't a day zero edition where you get stuff nobody else has so you get an advantage including accelerated leveling for an online game and new guns that you can only get if you buy that edition.

This is definitely true to me for games like Skyrim. I found it much more appealing when I played it when it first came out, and I couldn't go online to find out which quest dialogue option was the best to go with, etc. For some games, the immersion is much better when you know there's no potential hand-holds available. I realize one can simply deny themselves that, but I'm weak... :p

Very few games reach that cost. You can make a quality game at a fraction of that. The Witcher 3, for example, had a development budget of only $15 million (at least that was the plan going in, I don't know if they ever released their final totals).

It seems like the price point for a new top-tier game has been in the $50-$60 range for a very long time now. I'm not surprised these companies have planned out future revenue streams that help ease the prices up closer to what inflation should have done on the front end. The thing is we're likely not going to shell out $100 for a new game but are mostly ok with paying $50, then $25, then $15, etc.

I just tried it and got up to the point of the paying.
It would on both the main and the premium edition. It does not work on the Season Pass

I still can't get it to take it...I keep getting "Unable to add voucher" when I paste the coupon in...

Gmg is a bit funny with codes. I think you have to get pretty far into the checkout process before it will accept the code.

The 40% off sale is back on GMG, so get it whilst you still can! I think it ends in two days! I bought the premium edition, so it dropped the price from $89.98 to $53.99..

Use this code:

CDKeys has it for $20 and change. I've used them before. No issues and I've read they have good customer service.
