Wouldn't you rather simply eat more high protein foods?

No kidding. A can of tuna is like 35 grams of protien per can, about 200 calories, only about 15 of which are from fat. And they only cost like $1.20 a can.

Of course most poeple would rather just eat more high protein food. However it is hard to get that much protein without using a protein supplement. You have to eat a LOT of meat/eggs/dairy to get enough protein and most poeple just don't have the time nor the appetite for that. For me it is much easier and quicker to mix up a protein shake (1 cup of skim milk & 1 scoop of protein which costs around $.40 per shake with around 200cal and 35g protein) than it is to eat more food.

He's using this as meal replacement, not addition. These shakes are great as an additional food, but they are a horrible way to replace a meal.

I recommend the VHT Extreme EXTREME SMOOTHIE, chocolate flavor, 11oz size. Actually tastes pretty decent (because it's made from milk)....kinda like Yoo-hoo. Even though it is a milk based drink and I'm lactose intolerent, I have no troubles at all 😀

i wonder where they get the protien to make those protien suppliements?

I'm pretty sure it's dairy concentrate of some form, then they pre-digest it somehow and slap the name Whey on it.

40 grams of protein eh? i had a protein stain once. never tried to eat it though

Good idea.. dosen't taste too good. Bit too salty.

That's why you add seasonings. Like sugar or pepper or stuff like that

Yup, I'm also tryin to do it on a budget. I got a case of 42 Myoplexes for $62 last week, also on clearance. They are not RTDs but MRPs but so yummy. A Tbs of low sugar pnut butter and 1.25 cups of ice, tastes just like cake batter!!! Sign me up!!

BTW, had a gnarly chest workout this morning. My back is a bit stiff from yesterday. Did 4 sets of "good mornings" with 200...nice and slow.

Get to the gym,

It's obvious a lot of you don't understand the why of protein supplement and meal replacement. Mostly because many who take them don't need them.

At one point I needed them, I was 190lbs and very low body fat (I am 5'10") I was working out 2hrs a day + cardio....I was hungry every 3 hours.

When you are eating all the time it's no fun and very impractically most of the time as many employers aren't going to be keen on you spending most of your time in the kitchen.

It's always better to eat 'real' foods, however, sometimes you get tired of chewing, it gets expensive, and the time and portibility is a factor.

Most people can hit their daily calorie need in 3 meals easy, the trick is to make the calories count....you need protein to grow, carbs for glycogen and fats to help move fat soluable vitamins and processes.

I am not on any set diet right now other than trying to watch candy and beer 🙂

When I am trying to bulk up I will get in about 150g of protein, 10% fat and the rest of my needed calories in carbs....I stay lean and gain muscle quickly. When I am dieting I cut back the carbs to about 50% of what I need and go calorie deficient for a couple weeks, it works for me, but for some people it puts them into 'fasting' mode where the weight get retained.

If I really want to lose I do the above diet + ECA + 30-45mins of cardio a day....however during these cycles I keep my muscle I have but don't gain any, I will still get stronger, but my muscle mass seems to stand still....but the weight comes off very fast, I can easily drop 10lbs in a month, easily 30lbs in two months.

take a blender to work, and mix in some fruits to make it taste better, plus u get other stuff other than just protein, u need ot vits and minerals for each meal. Unless of course its a meal replacement shake.

1g per pound of body weight?

I don't get anywhere near 158g of protein a day. Not even close. It doesn't help that I pretty much avoid meat and eat mostly vegetarian. But still, 158g seems a lot. Is this for people who are actively working out or "normal" adults?

My numbers were for people lifting heavily. And it's not 150g a day, its 1 gram per lb of lean muscle mass, which for most here I'd guess about 125 or less.

If you are not exercising or training heavily you don't need protein supplements usually (esp ones 40g per serving).
