Why do people call the cops again? Srsly. Do not call the police unless shit really hits the fan.

The only ignorance here is the officer who shoots with no disregard for where bullets may land.

Obviously you've never fired a gun. The bullet could have entered/splintered/exited the dogs body and struck the girl. I guess he should have taken the chance of the dog mauling the little girl instead.

Quite the imagination you have there. The dog approached him and he shot it. Cops kill family pets for no reason.

nowhere does it say it was attacking the girl. it's a better chance that the dog was a pet.

being accidentally shot by a Columbus Police officer, according to CBS affiliate WBNS in Columbus.
The shooting occurred Friday afternoon on Chandler Drive in Whitehall.
According to WBNS reports, the officer heard a family screaming about a medical emergency.
The officer approached and a dog came at him. Investigators told WBNS the officer shot the dog and a stray bullet hit the child.

this leads me to believe the cop fired without knowing what was behind the dog.

but very little ifno to go either way.

well..http://countercurrentnews.com/2015/06/ohio-cop-accidentally-4-year-old/

The Columbus Police Department has confirmed to us that the officer responded and “was trying to help an injured woman, a dog inside the home charged him.”

The officer was trying to shoot the family dog but missed and shot the 4-year-old girl in the right leg instead.

soo yeah little more info. makes the cop look as if he shouldn't have a gun. HE MISSED the dog and did not know what was BEHIND the dog.

Fully agree, this new info shows the officer is at fault and should have not have used his weapon without knowing if people were close by.

Cops should not just shoot dogs. If they are too scared to do the job without killing family pets then they should get a new line of work. A mailman can work for 30 years without killing a dog.

that's what blows my mind. That cops do it so often and it's a first reaction.

Mailmen can also just go "Fuck it!" and just not deliver your mail if they dont like the look of a dog.

But yeah, they (the police) do seem a bit on the itchy trigger side of things. (And in this case, at the least, needs to have his badge taken away)

Guess you don't know many mail carriers as quite carry mace/pepper spray/cattle prods to deal with dogs.

Actually about 6,000 USPS employees get bitten per year. First hit in google. Not counting FedEx, UPS, etc,

Could a mailman work 30 years and never get bitten? Sure. Chances are though he won't. They also do not go inside a house, like the cop did on this call for help. Good try though!

Yeah, because they can predict everything perfectly when they're about to get mauled by a dog.

The problem with people like you is that you rush to post this shit, yet you forgot to post the cop killed in Cincinnati or the other killed in New Orleans in the last 24 hours.

Remember, all cops are bad, durhur.

Yeah, they should just let the dogs maul them while trying to respond to an emergency and/or a crisis situation which may require their complete attention to either help, or apprehend, a criminal.

I'd love to see a shithead like you get put into a crisis situation.

Shoot first ask questions later, very sound procedural training. Sheriffs in the wild west showed way more restraint, while under way more hostile active threats.

The dog was basically doing what it was trained to do, attack intruders inside the home. I hope the media eventually releases information on the dog. Some accounts were stating the officer was very large and the dog medium-sized.

im sorry where was he getting mauled or even threatened by the dog?

and it's ok to put the public at risk to be shot?

just seems to me to many justify the cop shooting NOT KNOWING what was BEHIND THE FUCKING TARGET (that he missed) and hitting a 4 yr old.

sorry fuck him.

Not my first time ever being attacked by a dog but I do know when they jump on you, they can't run backwards on their hind legs at all and they fall down if you push towards them. Feed em one arm, hit em with the other but then again I'm also not afraid of them like some are.

right because a dog walking at you is fucking so damn stressful you can't take a second to make sure a 4 yr old is behind it.

I mean what matters more? some scares or a dead 4 yr old? i guess to the cop we know the answer...

hell i would think the possibility of shooting a 4 yr old would be more stressful then shooting a dog. but what do i know.

To protect and to serve (themselves).

Seems like no matter what happens, 99.99% of the time cops pat themselves on the back and call it a good shoot. That's what'll happen in this case.
