I think they meant more along the lines of "drive in it's class". Few things can compete with 15k rpm SCSI, both in performance and price...

Ahhh I agree srry didnt see the 15k RPM, Well DAHHHH, jeesh well of course I will lose to those guyz.. I only have a 10k RPM.

Basically, I think you either get what you need, or get what you can afford. For me, for example, I need space more than speed, but the fact that my RAID 5 array is quite nice on the performance area as well...

Same here.. more space needed.. using 7 fuji map3147np scsi drives.. with hardware raid & cache , it flies

and this will benefit you in what way ? besides making your epenis appar larger but in reality you won't notice a difference....

With what else do we test our hardware with then ?

He has a point. Raptors lose to DiamondMax 10s in Doom 3 loading tests. You can win all the 3D Marks in the world but suck in gaming performance and then what.....

So WD is lying when You buy a new raptor, when it says right on the box "World's Fastest hard Drive"

WD sucks compared to Maxtor IMO.
I get less than 40MB/s with my regular WD drives (a 60GB BB and an 80BB) while my Maxtor 80GB approaches 50MB/s with 2MB cache.
If Maxtor made a 10k drive I reckon it might whoop the Raptor.

Woot and probably 0 CPU use if scsi to scsi.

Isnt that impossible ?

screenshot says 1% cpu usage.

+/- 2%.. it's my understanding SCSI, once command is given, no longer needs processor, period. Has it's own on controller card and HDD. And why in major servers they can use hundreds of drives while CPU can actually do other stuff like calculate and communicate.

stop spamming this thread

if you're up at 3 in the morning, im assuming you dont even work.. some of us work and need to work at home, i dont have over 1tb in storage sitting there doing nothing. To keep up and get ahead in life you'll need to learn a lot of stuff on your own at home, so to do that, I spend a lot of money on equipment.. so if thats growing epenis.. hell, I got a huge one.

So here's how big my epenis is

Sorry.. haven't been in there for days... been hauling ass at work..

The IRAM is okay but its just too small.. theres another thread on nv storage.. ill find it but it cost so fricken much.. i dont think i need speed that fast..

EDIT:

Heres the answer to hdd speed

Wow, I just through selling my Raid 0 74GB raptor setup. There really wasn't a noticable difference between them and my two year old 120GB WD PATA drive. These SCSI numbers look interesting though. I may have to give that a try next. What interface card would you guys recommend for a 1 disk setup and the Fujitsu MAU 36GB?

The mau are u320 series.. But having it on u160 would work if you're saving money.. but if plan on getting more drives, i would get the lsi raid controller.. it'll work with hdd drives but not tape drives or scsi dvd drives..

this is what i use
http://cgi.ebay.com/LSI-Logic-MEGARAID-...8QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

You can get with or w/o battery. W/o battery works okay but if you have stuff in ram and you lose power, you're looking at uncomitted writes... usually this is a prob on Raid 5 systems because thats how they increase the write speed..

that controller can drive 40 drives.. dual channel.. if you get single, it's 14 drives.. yes its expensive as hell..

what mobo do you use, because that card is pci-x.. 64 bit better but if for 1 drive, u160 pci is good enough.. I figure up to 3 drives off 1 u160 pci controller

What do you think is wrong w/ my systems ??

I tested my P4C 3.6 & the A64 3700+, both have an adaptec 29160N contoller.. All have 1% cpu util.

P4C system:

Atlas 15k 36g C: 115.8 MB/s
Atlas 15K 36g E: 116
Atlas 10k2 36g F: 115
Atlas 10k4 74g G: 116.1

A64 system:

Fuj. Mas 15k 36g C: 116.9
AtlasV 7200rpm 18g: 116.9

they all seam to get ~115MB/s ..... do you think it's the pci bus ???

Regards,
Jose

first off it is 0300 where you live, it was only 1am where i was and second it looks more like a computer pawn shop, can you explain why all the optical drives? you are probably going to be the next guy the feds raid and take tons of pirated dvds. if that is not the case, what do you do for a living?

Storage and My Documents. Later a scratch disk will also be added. 3D Studio max and video editing files are also saved in docs under projects... And I have yet to start downloading tape s from my digital camcorder. So when I get more time, I will be filling up the array with video too.

Storage of Adobe Premiere files.. I dont use 3d studio..

Thats what I use my DVD burners for makeing porno adobe premiere junk. Lots of editing

Judging by forcesho's single 74g scsi getting 480MB/s, I really need a pci-e hba to go w/ my 15k scsi drives....only getting 116MB/s right now ...

I think it's the pci bus limiting me, because even my 7200rpm scsi drive gets 116.9MB/s .....

I wonder what my 2 - 36g 15k Atlas would get on a pci-x controller w/ raid 0 .....

just reminder that is a 64bit pcix card.. so dont go spending money on these results.. it seems to be pretty expensive hobby 🙂
