4 X 1GB

After having read the topic that shows 2T is negligably slower than 1T I have been contemplating throwing 4 x 1GB dimms into my next system.

The mobo I plan to use is: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Socket 939

What would be the most cost-effective 4 x 1GB sticks? (reliable, ok timings)

This mobo says that 4 dimms = 333MHz fsb.... is that true?

Would being able to turn off the Windows pf be as sweet as it seems it would be?

What exactly do you do with your computer? It depends on what you do, but I doubt you would benefit from using 4GB. Also there is no benefit at all to disabling the pagefile.

LOL, I do 3DS MAX, Video editing, and gaming.... I had decided on 2GB but am actually thinking about the future and whether I would eventually plan to move to 4GB (and yes I know windows would only allow me to utilize like 3.2-3.6 GB of that...). I guess it's curiousity that's making me ask... with 4GB, you've maxed out the regularly addressable memory space of a 32bit OS... kind of a cool thought. I had also thought not having a pf would be interesting but perhaps it truely would offer not benefit...

Not having a page file is "interesting" in the same way that owning a wolf would be "interesting". It would be cool to talk about, but there's no telling when the decision would end up biting you in the ass.

That's pretty funny 🙂

If you don't *know* if you need 4 Gb or not, don't buy it yet. If you do, you're likely just spending a lot of money on something that may not even do any good. Go with 2 Gb (which is itself even debated) and see how it works. You could always add the extra 2 Gb later if you find you need it.

Yeah, Tank Guys, that's sort of what my plan is... I was just thinking about the future and wondering if adding 2GB of RAM to 2GB of RAM would do anything more interesting than just doubling the physical memory... that's why I brought up the pf and the 1T vs. 2T. I'm definitely not going to be getting 4GB any time soon, just possibly in the future (maybe two year's time for example).
