My point is it's useless getting worked up over someone being freaking nice. They were being courteous, yet in typical American fashion, you complain about it.

And in typical American fashion, you can't read. From the OP:

You're not being polite by waving someone else through when it's obviously your turn to go. You're only stopping up traffic, creating momentary frustration and confusion, because you weren't paying attention and have no idea that it's your turn (or don't "trust" the other cars to wait for theirs).

THAT'S my point: It's not "being nice" or courteous, it's being stupid.
