4 terrorists arrested in shocking plot to destroy JFK airport via fuel line explosion

I'm curious why these terrorists keep getting arrested in the planning stages when everyone knows that if you've stumbled on a plot like this, you surveil and investigate right up until the last second.

When will the anti-war crowd and libs realize this is Global War on Terror?
When will the anti-war crowd and libs realize the benefits and little harm done by domestic spying programs?
When will "mainstream" Muslims stand up and vocally denounce violent radical Muslims?
Why are so many people stuck in a pre-9/11 mentality?

The USA has enemies, therefore it has a right to defend itself. It's far passed time to be politically correct and panzy about dealing with these threats.

It's far passed time to be non-hostile to our Muslim population. The recruitment and training of attacks against us must be prevented and it happens from within our borders. We know the profile to use, it's Islam, and we need to deal with it before it successfully strikes us again.

We can only prevent so many attacks, more lives will be lost, it?s a question of what we intend to do about it before it happens. Thus far, nothing.

Sweet! I was able to capture all the crazy in this thread in one easily quotable post.

Note to everyone: reasoning with these two is like reasoning with your dishwasher. Does anyone ever notice that people type out reasoned responses to these two guys (myself sadly included), and all they ever get back is some nonsensical or obviously ignorant response? I mean, at what point do you just give up on these two?

If you are not being sarcastic; what happens if you miss the last second and they actually suceed?

You don't miss. You swoop in and arrest before there's any chance of that.

Thread title is shockingly hilarious.

I don't believe anyone was shocked, except perhaps at the incompetence of the planners, and the impossibility of the outcome.

Maybe it was supposed to read "shockingly bad plot".

Of course we should not let the fact that these guys?s idea was stupid stop us from understanding that they wanted to kill hundreds if not thousands of people and do an insane amount of damage.

They were stupid, that's why they are in jail. Now we should focus on understanding the common link between them and with the others such as those involved with Fort Dix. Doesn't take a genius.

If we would be so much as willing to recognize them, perhaps we can identify and deal with their fellows sooner, perhaps before they succeed in their upcoming attacks. This isn?t about skin color, ethnicity, or nationality, this is about a religion.

EVERYONE should recognize and understand that simple fact.

Let's just wait until a Democratic President, Senate, and House are all in office at once. Will people be so much happier when the domestic spying acts are repealed? Do they understand that it's still going to happen, even if it's "illegal"? I'm not saying that I'm pro-spying on your own citizens, but it's going to happen regardless. I think some of you need to get your panties in a bunch over more important things.

Yep, they should put Jack Bauer on the case.

Yeah, that's a genius approach. These 4 guys share a religion with a few others who are also terrorists, and hundreds of millions who are NOT terrorists. As predictors go, religion seems to be a non-starter.

Good thing we're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here.

Oh wait.....

yep, it's not working - look at all the attacks we've had carried out on american soil

oh wait...
In February 1993, the WTC was bombed by al-Qaeda; an attack on our soil.

Eight years and five months later, there wasn't another attack by al-Qaeda on our soil.

Then 9/11 happened a month later.

You guys are idiots if you think Bush's strategy (throwing money down the hole in Iraq vs. shoring up domestic security) is keeping us safe. This is June 2007; only six years after 9/11.

These amateurs weren't even al-Qaeda.

that has to be one of the most educated post ive ever read on this matter

Yeah, constitution be damned. Why should anybody be required to get a warrant before spying on people?
Why are so many people stuck in a pre-9/11 mentality?

What changed on 9/11 that suddenly made the world a different place? Terrorist attacks were happening long before that. 9/11 was just a well planned and executed one. It was not some revolutionary, history altering event just because politicians say so.

Unfortunately Nixon's War on Drugs and the following adminstrations stripped away more rights than most Americans realize. You can still lose property to confiscation and then PROVE you are innocent in drug cases.

devastion worse than 911..

Didn't read the whole thread, but how are you going to cause mass destruction with a liquid fuel pipeline or storage tank?

Once a pipeline breaks, they are immediatly aware of it, and turn the pumps off. You could make a nice big fire, but not mass destruction. Tank fires just burn until the fuel is gone.

These people arrested are idiots, and thus a minor annoyance.

Bingo

An alleged plot to blow up fuel tanks and pipelines at New York's JFK airport had little chance of success, according to safety experts, who have questioned whether the plot ever posed a real threat.

US authorities said Saturday they had averted an attack that could have resulted in "unfathomable damage, deaths, and destruction," and charged four alleged Islamic radicals with conspiracy to cause an explosion at the airport.

But according to the experts, it would have been next to impossible to cause an explosion in the jet fuel tanks and pipeline. Furthermore, the plotters seem to have lacked the explosives and financial backing to carry out the attack.
---
His comments contrasted with those of US Attorney Roslynn Mauskopf, who insisted at the weekend that "the devastation that would be caused had this plot succeeded is just unthinkable."

Jake Magish, an engineer with Supersafe Tank Systems, also cast doubt on the credibility of the plot, saying: "The fantasy that I've heard about the people saying 'they will blow the tank and destroy the airport,' is nonsense."

"There are people there responding to hysteria, I think. But from an engineering point of view, if someone is successful in blowing a hole into a tank, they will just have a fire from one tank.

"There is no way for the fire to go from tank to tank, that is nonsense. It just won't happen."

Don't tell Faux News. They really need a good terror tale to spin for a few weeks of fear.

Has anyone thought of the damage this attack would have done to the environment?
How much carbon would they have released?
Imagine the effect on Global Warming? wow the left should be pissed as hell at these guys for wanting to hurt the environment.

"devastion worse than 911.. and yep, both domestic & intl radical muslims involved"

Oh come on, worse than 9/11?! You have got to be kidding! Lighting off fuel tanks would maybe kill a couple of people during the initial explosion.

"When will the anti-war crowd and libs realize this is Global War on Terror?"
Terror is a concept, not a group of people. You can't have a war against a concept. Th phrase "War on Terror" was chosen so as to keep the "war against" going virtually forever, anywhere in the world and against anybody so deemed.

"When will the anti-war crowd and libs realize the benefits and little harm done by domestic spying programs?"
We are a country of the Constitution and laws, not of men, and G.Bush is only a man, who is bound by the Constitution and laws. Bush said the Constitution is "only a piece of paper", and he has exempted himself from the law via signing statements.

"When will "mainstream" Muslims stand up and vocally denounce violent radical Muslims?"
The have and do, but the press doesn't carry it.

"Why are so many people stuck in a pre-9/11 mentality?"
Quite the contrary--most people are still frozen by fear and thus easily manipulated by the Administration.

"The USA has enemies, therefore it has a right to defend itself. It's far passed time to be politically correct and panzy about dealing with these threats."
Are you calling out those who have the courage to stand up against the obvious lies, illegal actions, and war crimes of a few in power who purport to speak for all of us? I call out those who are afraid to question those "in authority", who are so naive that they can't believe that someone in authority would lie to us.

My instincts say this is a dumb plot. While you can certainly blow up a segment of a pipeline using conventional explosives, I very much doubt the actual pipeline could be the source of a huge explosion. As far as I'm aware, jet fuel is like gasoline in that it doesn't explode (or even burn very much) unless it has the correct fuel/air mixture, something I imagine would not be present in the pipeline. It certainly SOUNDS scary, but seems less than plausible upon further examination...further reinforcing the idea that it's a stupid plot that's good for scaring people and not much else. I have no doubt that stupid wannabe terrorists would come up with something like this, but I'm not sure I'd lose any sleep over it.

Right on the money... If they are at all like the Trinidadian who is a part of the J'maat Al Muslimeen. The J'maat is a group who attempted a Coup in Trinidad back in 1990 I believe. They would have al been executed for treason but the Stupid Englsih Privy Council stepped in and saved the J'maat members. Currently there are many kidnappings and much drug trafficking and crime in general due to the J'maat. They use Islam as a cover of sorts for their activities- in other words they are not really interested in anything Islamic- money and power are their goals. Nothing like the Arab-based extremists. At any rate, they are a cowardly bunch, and not particularly organized or anything. They would never be able to pull off a stunt like the one being attempted here. Just a gang of petty crooks and murderers really. Not suprising these bumblers got caught so early. So, this is not really indicative of any great success of our anti-terror system.

Seriously, file this one away with the guy that wanted to take down the Brooklyn bridge with a blow torch, and the guys that wanted to flood the above sea level tunnel in NYC. Terrer masterminds all of them.
