The original shipping dates for the knives were 1 to 2 weeks, so it'll probably be quite a wait until shipping happens.

Folks, this isn't as hot as the original in terms of out of pocket (or into pocket, really) cash, but I stumbled across a pretty warm deal while trying to get in on the original.

I ordered the JA Henckels International Traditional 16-Piece Knife Block Set from Amazon for $99. These are still one-man knives, not the killer two-man ones made in Germany. That said, it is the no-stain, drop forged, hand honed, bolstered stainless steel stuff made in Spain, which is supposed to be very, very close to the German stuff and lightyears ahead of the Chinese knives.

I also bought the $39.99 13-piece Chinese set (ought to make a nice housewarming gift) to put me over the top for the Amazon "$40 G.C. with a $129 purchase cutlery purchase deal".

For some reason, when I put in the $15 off $75 code, it gave me $30 off. So I paid a total of $110, and I will be getting a $40 GC on top of it.

What makes this such a deal is the quality of the International Traditional set. The list price on these is $438, and I confirmed that with JA Henckels in New York. I also confirmed the features of these knives since they aren't on the Amazon site...in other words, I don't think anyone realizes what they are getting for $99. Given that Amazon seems to sell Henckels for around 40% off list, I would guess that this set would normally sell for at least $249.

YMMV!

i ordered them, but without the coupon. So it was $40, but i guess we get a $40 Promo GC? so that would make them free. I was going to call about the coupon, but was flamed til my pm box was full about not spoiling the deal. So i didnt call...

henckles isn't that good. doesn't last too long. the best is cutco. lifetime warranty and free sharpening, but nevertheless a lot more expensive. it's worth the price though cause you should ideally be able to keep them for your whole life and they'll still be as sharp as when u bought them.

No, no. What you really want is those Ginsu knives they advertise on TV! Those things will cut through a tree stump! They'll cut through a 6" steel beam! Then they'll cut through a tomato!

Yeah, I don't think I'll be needing a $400 set of knives that can chop off my finger with as much pressure as it takes to scratch my nose. I can cut chicken and steak rather easily with a serrated butter knife, much less a friggin tomato.

The GC comes 4-6 weeks after they ship. They need to make sure you won't return the item first.

My order shipped too, but there's a problem with mine. At some point, the amount of the order was adjusted from $24.97 to $74.something. I've already emailed them to find out why they didn't bother to tell me anything til after shipping. Anyone else experiencing this?

Exactly the same thing happened here. It is happening to everyone who ordered. I ordered on the 12th and got my shipping confirmation about an hour ago. I will call Amazon and if they give me a hard time I will just call Discover Card and let them deal with it. Amazon will get into a lot of trouble for over charging without getting the okay from the consumer.
