4 Red LED's and no POST !!

so according my manual this means that either my CPU is incorrectly installed or is damaged. Well as it has been running without change for months I suppose my CPU has died.
My question is this: can i replace the CPU with an XP1800?
I have checked the MSi website and "tech support" but am still not sure as I have the 1.4 BIOS and not the latest 1.9 that shows on the website that runs the XP fine.
So any help please? Can anyone re-assure me that the XP will go in OK?
If not, what do I do if it will not POST if it needs a new BIOS and the system is dead?
Perhaps I am worrying to much and I should just go ahead and get a new CPU but perhaps you know better.....

MSi K7T266 PRO (6380 1.4 BIOS)
AMD 1Ghz Athlon 🙁(

I would say your mainboard has a problem.

There are a few things you might want to try.

To make sure it's not the CPU, try another one.

If that doesn't help, take out the mainboard battery for some time, maybe one hour, then put it back in and see what happens.
Take out the CPU and put it back in, do the same with your RAM at the same time. Reset the BIOS then and see what happens.
Be sure that the powerconnector is unplugged from the mainboard when you try what I suggested, could really make a difference to just unplugging the powercable from the PSU outside the case.

If it still won't do anything, the mainboard is dead...

Thanks very much Wasnlos, I'll try all that.
I've always hated this motherboard as it's got the dreaded Via chip fault which causes it to hang forcing a hard re-boot.
