4 PCI-E Card SLI !!!

For those SLI fans (unfortunately I'm not one of them) ... drool over this board.

Gigabyte has managed to create 4 (yes you read that correctly FOUR) PCI-E 16x slots on one single motherboard ... though unfortunately this seem to only work on Intel platform for now ... no estimate on availability given though.

Regardless, that's impressive.

IIRC, SLI (scalable link interface) allows a user to link an essentially unlimited number of GPUs together, provided the slots and the power are adequate. All NV has to do is enable it in the driver, which one of those goofballs at XG or StarStorm could probably do easily.

Rumor has it ATi's upcoming MVPU (Crossfire, the rumblings are saying) can support up to 32 GPUs linked - again, essentially unlimited.

Right now, to me, it comes down to two things - who's cores are more powerful, and who's card-linking method results in the least overhead. I have an inkling that since NV uses an actual PCB, gold-fingered link between cards that they'll get away with less performance loss than ATi's cable-linking method. If ATi's raw core performance makes up the difference, however...

But time will tell.

I figured Gigabyte would do something like this. They were the first to put 2 gpus on one board. I figured they'd try to run 2 dualgpu cards in sli or they'd do this. Very interesting...

I don't much see the point of this for 6600GT unless your monitor can do 20X15, but four 6800GTs or 6800Us- whoa nelly! Some serious high res/high AA/high AF potential there!

WOAH...ya!! u could possibly do Doom3 at 2028x1600 at 200fps...lol this would mean the need for 1000W really soon...imagine having 4 G70s!

Looks like with the GPUs power skyrocketing, other bottlenecks will become more and more important (CPU/RAM size/speed/etc..).

I've seen some benches on dual 6600GT, not sure about the 6800GT though.

I've seen some benches on dual 6600GT, not sure about the 6800GT though.

benches for the dual 6600GT have been released, that i knw...but i want to see how well the 6800GT performs...should easily be the highest performing single card.

sigh...based on this statement it shows how clever u are.....i wasnt comparing SLI to a ferrari, just that those who cannot afford one will always complain,.."oh its so xpensive" is it really worth buying one for 2million bucks!! blah blah!! u seem to fall into that category
