Unadvertised sale at Radio Shack Normally 39.99, but it is on sale for $19.99. Has both S-video and RCA inputs. Will not convert video signals. Only s-vid to s-vid and rca to rca. Exactly the same layout as the sony, just slightly larger.

Good deal on this item. If you walked into Best Buy wanting one expect to pay 40-50 bucks. Nice find A.

A,

You read my mind. I have been looking for an AV selector all day today. I am looking for one that can convert rca to s-video. Do they sell these for under $100?

I was looking at this selector, but it doesn't do the conversion either. Circuitcity.com has it for $59.

cb4800, Crutchfield sells a $79 Sony SB-V55A that does exactly what you want. Check others stores though...

I was about to buy one of these at best buy for $39, I'll definitely be stopping by my local radio shack tomorrow to see how these look. Thanks for the heads up!

I have one and there is no perceptable change in signal/video. I have my DVD and Digital Cable hooked up to one to take advantage of the S-Video on both.

The price was not marked down on the display (or on the web site), but when I took it up to be rung up it rang up at 19.99. I can scan the recipt and e-mail it if anyone needs it. It is clearly marked as 1501966, so it wasn't rung-up incorrectly.

I cannot tell any difference in quality running through the selector.

This is actually my second switch. I paid $50 for a sony one from best buy. I use one for the video input on my 53in tv to switch between DVD and Sat. I am using this second one to go to a modulator that modulates the signal onto a cable channel to be distributed to the rest of the house. That way I can watch DVD or SAT from anywhere in the house. Not that I really need it. I usually only watch tv on my bigscreen, but just the fact that I could if I wanted to. :)

Maetryx here,

Wouldn't a good VCR have connections in for S-Video and RCA and then connectors out for S-Video and RCA? Couldn't you do the converstion through such a VCR? Might be a better deal than getting a video converter whatever thingy for $100.

Walmart has an RCA 6 input svideo selector for $39 and it can be programmed to work with a remote. It doesn't do composite to svideo though. Does anyone know if the quality of the composite to svideo conversion is as good as if it were directly svideo?

I doubt that. It's more for convenience. At best you'll get composite quality.

Maetryx - I think you'll run into a macrovision/copy potection problem w/ some VCRs if you do that.

Radio Shack has a small plug converter which takes RCA to S-Video and vice-versa. There has to be some circuitry in there to do the conversion, but by the adapter size, it sure doesn't look like it.

I picked one up from RS about a year ago; it works great for my non-SVHS VCR.

Anyway, if you want a really nice switch, check out the Sima SVS-4 at Buy.com. (It's what I'm using for PSX, Dreamcast, and SNES sound and video auto-switching to S-Video output). It's $149, but I've seen it as low as $80 online at times. Best Buy cleared em out last year at $80 also. 4 inputs, 2 outputs, composite -> S-video conversion, auto-switching, remote control, volume stabilization.

The converted signal will not look any better; like noxxic says, it is more a matter of convenience. I will say the picture does not look any worse!

Actually, there is a possibility the converter will improve your signal slightly: the converter eliminates the need for your TV's comb filter for a composite signal and will help eliminate dot crawl. If your TV has a decent comb filter (or digital comb filter) then you won't see a difference.

I use a converter so I never have to switch inputs on the TV. My A/V receiver does S-video switching, and so does the Sima.

Alright, thanks. My reciever also does svideo switching and I also have 2 svideo and 2 composite inputs on the back on my tv, so I guess I don't need the converter. I just wanted it if I could get a better picture from my vcr and other devices that only use composite cables.

I found a Pelican Accessories 4 input selector switch last week. It has rca AND s-video on it, but no conversion. The thing i do like though is it has little nameplates that you can switch on there for each of the 4 inputs. Link here It kinda matches the Playstation 2 colors, and it works really well.

Has anyone confirmed that this unadvertised sale is still on at B&Ms? Did anyone else aside from A get this $19.99 price at a B&M store? I am interested in this item but the nearest Radio Shack isn't that near so I was hoping to know for sure that this is a national price before I headed out. . . .

If your receiver already has enough inputs (I would imagine so), just hook the audio up directly to the receiver. I think most of us are looking for this to be able to use S-Video inputs from several different sources with one TV. Many newer TV's are coming with more than one S-Video input, but 19.99 is cheaper than buying a new set.

I just bought a Recoton 4port switch from buy.com to use up my aging buy.com $100 gc via eTrade. I didn't... really need one, but I also didn't want to be stuck with a $100 gc to a company that no longer existed. Anyways, it has (straight from the page)

4 S-Video Inputs
4 RCA stereo audio/video inputs
1 S-Video output
1 RCA stereo audio/video output

AND, not mentioned, I think it has a headphone jack. Check www.recoton.com, model DVD1000. To find the page on buy.com, search for "recoton switcher"

$26.99 and I think shipping is free today! It's from the electronics store

EDIT EDIT That is all
