I got an email from Compusa the other day. Starting 1/22 8am-Noon at Compusa: Desktops, Notebooks, Digital Cameras, Home Entertainment, Monitors, Printers, Digital Camcorders are all discounted, (Cost plus 7%). And everything else is 10% off. In-Store only. Maybe good to check out. I would see if they discount any Apple computers. They have a huge markup.

the last 4 hr sale at compUSA (4 or 6 weeks ago), cost + 10%, I did not see anything good at all, except the Palm Tungsten T5 for $349.99. Hopefully I find good deal on the digital camera since they are still giving out the epson R200 for free with any digital camera purchase after gift card and MIR.

There isnt that much MarkUp on Apple or the Digital Rebel. You Might get a pretty good deal on that D20 Though. On the Rebel CompUSA MArkUp is less than $90 on a $1000 cam, Cost + 7% is not much of a Discount. And on all the Apple Items, 7% is pretty close to retail as well. I know, I work there

I doubt that they use the TRUE cost to determine the cost +7%. If they did use the true cost of the item, I would think that some of the products would be a much better deal. It would not surprise me if they used a wholesale price which is higher than the price they pay to determine the cost basis to add the 7% to. It also wouldn't surprise me if they had some sort of a rebate program with their suppliers similar to automobile dealers in that they get a sort of kickback based on the units they sell, etc.

Just a thought which of course could be wrong.

They probably base it on the highest cost of the past 12 months. Not their current cost and certainly not the lowest cost in the past 12 months. they get discounts off of their unit cost continuously.

You shure Apple does mark up there stuff high. At my college they offer a powerbook that retails for $2499, for $1999. Regular Educational price was $2299. The powerbook a couple weeks ago dropped now to $1799. $700 off seems like a hell of a discount and I know they are still making a profit.

I think that 7% mark up is at CompUSA cost. Obviously, Apple will have a much higher markup such that they can offer educational discounts and still make a killing.

No we don't "loose" ( Not fastened, restrained?) 7% on our deals, rather we wait for double discounts and score when the combination of need and price is at the peak.
Regardless - this is a good "quicky" deal if you need something.

I just came from there sale. The only thing That I even though about buying was some LCD moniters. They put the sale tag over the regular preice tag(which has teh rebates on it) so I asked the guy if they were still eligible for rebate. He said they were. I could have gotten a Viewsonic VX910 or Samsung Syncmaster 912n for about $350 after the rebates on top of the sale prices. I passed in it and came home to do the coupon on the dell 1905FP, with tax and shipping it came to $417.

Just got back from my local CompUSA and bought the PNY 6600GT. List 249.99 w/ the 8-noon 10% off sale brought it to $225.00. Checking the reciept in my car it was eligeble for a $30.00 rebate from PNY. The guys had to go in the back and search around for the AGP card as only PCIe cards were in the case. Not too bad.

No way. This is why they try to sell you the extended warranties and the belkin cable. The belkin stuff they make 800%-1200% markup. The extended warranties are basically pure profit for the store, if you have it in for repair they just put that in another category of expenses.
The actual markup on most items is fairly small. Certainly not 30% on most of the computers or laptops. I can see 10% or 20% maybe.
