4 Gigs generic memory or 1 Gig Cosair

I would get 4gig of Cosair, but it cost a lot.
I am not even good when it comes to overclocking (never really attempted it), but if you aren't going to o'c, is Cosair, Kingston, or OCZ really necessary?
I'm not dumping on any of these brands, I know they are great, but if I am running everything at stock, do I need them?

It's only when you get to the cheap of the cheap do you have problems.

The thing is that when you get to such high RAM density, running 4 1 gig sticks of 3200 isn't possible. So the i865/875 chipset runs them at 333, if I remember correctly.

Running everything stock, i'd go with something like samsung. Cheap and good.

I did not know that, thank you for letting me know. Do you think I would have problem with 4 sticks of 512 3200?

Anandtech *does* do memory testing with all the banks occupied...but 4 GB might be pushing it. I'd check for a review of the motherboard you are going to use this in and see what it says about it.

4gig or 1 gig what kind of question is that? I Can't think of a reason why you would want one of the other.... If need alot of ram for serving stuff then go with 4 gigs. If it is just a general use computer go for the gig....

And double that yet again because you can never have too much in that case!

If you have the NEED for 4GB then you can afford the good stuff. Yes that system has 16GB of Corscare Ram.

It seems to me, most of us don't need 4GB of ram. We will never do anything with our computers that require that amount of memory. So we'll never see any benefit from it. But getting good quality, tight timed RAM DOES make a difference to all of us. You WILL use those tight timings, and you will notice how your computer is nice and stable.

Go with the Corsair, unless you need 4GB of ram for some reason. Generally if you're in a position where you need that much ram, you can afford to at least get name brand ram.

I'm not worried about why you are asking about the 4GB RAM, but I'm going to make an educated guess that you will never even come close to using it all. Go with the 1GB Corsair.

If we don't know what you will be using the ram for, then we can't make an informed decision as to why you would need that much ram. All we can do now is throw an answer out to the wind.

Very true, I was on the IGNPC boards and all they ask was why I needed so much, but since you guys here seem to be a bit subdued than them here goes.

I really wanted the Cosair XMS ProSeries RAM, but it's too damn expensive, so I assumed that if I stuff the board with generic RAM, I could make up for not getting what I really want.
