I have voltages and clocks all at stock in my BIOS and it's been very stable. for Patriot RAM so far.
cool 😎 I'm still fending off the urge to build a new DDR2-based rig... barely.

Sheesh, just build the thing already 😛 You know you want to 😉

Ok, I've had this RAM now for around a week. I've run Memtest86+ for 12+ hours with this RAM doing the random tests. Zero errors. I've run the bitfade test for at least 10 hours zero errors as well.

You mean when they drop to, like, $240 or something? *drool*

aaack, They are everywhere! :Q

i think ram speed comes into play here, i'd rather have my 2gb dominators than some 4gb kingston value pack...lol
either way i have no issues with performance in games, even Oblivion with Qarl's 3 texture pack at my monitors max resolution play very smooth on my vista ultimate. crysis's recommended specs arnt that high either, 1.5gb ram if i recall.

all you need for this year is fast 2gb ram, Vlited vista without all the junk, blackvipers services tweaks and along with decent cpu/gpu its good to go...besides DDR3 will probably be mainstream next year or something.

I'd rather save the money and avoid Corsair altogether. If it were me I'd have gotten some quality Micron D9 based sticks for about 1/4 the cost of those dominators. Then you could have gotten 4GB and saved money anyhow.

You didn't mention which you bought. If you got the PC6400 part it's not even Micron ICs, but Promos.

Do people still bother / care what chips make up their RAM? I think as long as the RAM is stable, error-free, and can perform to its advertised specs. people don't care.

I think that people looking to push the overclocking limit care if their RAM can run above rated specs or not.

a little off topic, but i dont think its a good idea now that vista is out and memory is so cheap these days. lazy programmers now design their applications as if everyone has 2GB RAM or something. they take up resources and don't give them back. it's just sad.

MSN Messenger 14MB? Yahoo 20MB? WTF Firefox 150MB! in the old days I can run the same fscking chat programs and browsers and they took only a fraction of that and ran smoothly with 128MB, just a few new crap features added and for some reason now 1GB is "not sufficient enough". programmers these days are just lazy. just because I have the RAM doesn't mean you can go ahead and hog 200MB for a friggin html editor.

Well, imho it can if it actually uses that stuff to provide you with intelligent code completion.

Anyways, on most systems 4 GB is overkill since only 3 GB will be used, Dan has it all explained here:

nice article. Thank god I only have a 256mb 7600gt! Now I can use 3.75 gb -640-to-1024-kilobyte.

I esp liked the part about : "64-bit address space is 4,294,967,296 times the size of the 32-bit one". So, the next time I need 16 billion gb of ram, I'll make sure to use a 64 bit os. Or should that be 16 million tb? 16 thousand pb? what's after peta? penta? 16 Pb. That's what I want! You can't play civ 4 without 16 Pb of ram.
