Myself and 3 friends (CommCR, dmoney, and a non member) are trying to play Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne over a lan... we have been playing Rise of Nations (Well worth the money, by the way!), but would like to get our fantasy fix for the night :)

Here is our problem... Two of them can hook up to the game I host, but CommCR cannot see my game. We all have updated our games to the newest version thru B.net, have our FT CD's in the drive, not our WC3 CD's, but he still cannot see games I host, nor games anyone else hosts. We are on a router together and he can still access the internet fine and we can all share files. Any ideas?

Heh I don't know anything about networking, but I've had this problem with StarCraft before. What I did was make a private internet game. Not sure if you can do it with Frozen Throne though.

have him host

make sure he has the proper protocols.

Disable all firewalls

More info:

He can't open the shared folders on my computer, but he can get on the internet... so it's like he's not on the LAN but he is getting an IP from the router

check his security settings then. If he has them set high in some areas, LAN games dont work all that well.

EDIT: W00T! 4k posts!

The game hoster could run Battle.LAN or LANCraft and forward the traffic to the box that's being difficult.

Not an ideal solution, but that's all I've got. :beer:

WC3 uses TCP/IP over lan, right? RIGHT? Please god don't tell me they drug IPX up out of the crypt again.

In the event that they have, make sure all the computers are set to use the 802.3 frame type (under the IPX protocol settings, wherever that is for you).

Heh. Pretty sure it just uses TCP/UDP.

Check to make sure he isn't running the xp firewall on his computer, this could inhibit lan games.

He = Me

WinXP

I could play with the others on the Lan with Rise of nations because it allowed me the option to connect directly to their IP Address. Warcraft doesn't have that option.....
