I currently have 2x 20" displays that I used for my day to day work.
I would like to buy one or two 24" monitors to add to this set up.

Am I better off getting the 4850x2 which has quad DVI or getting 2x 4870's

Yeah I'll be doing some gaming too, that's why I was looking at 48xx series cards.

Do you game on multiple screens? Just get a 4870 1gb and a 3450. Or if you don't have a motherboard yet, you could get integrated video for 2 monitors and a 4870 for 2 others. But 3450 is so cheap that it really doesn't matter. Or if you have to have digital for all monitors, there's a 4650 for $40 after rebate. Lastly, the 4850x2 seems interesting. $245 after rebate (though out of stock for the moment) on newegg.

if u got $300 u can get the 4850x2 with 4x DVI ports for a simple solution with lots of gaming potential!

usually not. I just game on a single screen, but i recently started playing supreme commander and that makes very good use of two or three screens
