What about those people with knives?

Many many more.

Alcohol and idiots rarely mix. More people own knives than guns. Rather than banning guns how about people get alcohol registration instead. If you fail the drunk test, you are not allowed to drink. A lot more lives would be saved.

These are not mutually exclusive solutions.

Owning and driving a car increases your chances of being killed by a car. Better not to have a car.

You're trying to make a funny joke but it's true. Transporters would make automobiles nearly obsolete and boom no more car accidents. Just transporter malfunctions 😀

The problem with that argument is that in much of the US, you need a car. Almost no one needs a gun, and even fewer need a concealed gun in public.

The issue is that the gun lobbies have created loop holes, and twisted the current laws to be ineffective. Step one is fixing the current laws!

Based on what I see about town, America needs more washing machines and fewer guns and a whole bunch fewer "drivers".

If there was a mental competency test for gun ownership those guys would have failed and been denied a gun purchase.

Not likely. This isn't a case of some crazy person going on a killing rampage for no reason. It's a case of a moron that's watched too many Clint Eastwood films getting angry, and shooting the people he was mad at.

If he hadn't had a gun, the worst thing that would have happened would have been a fist fight. A fight, I would imagine he would have lost, which is why he felt he needed to reach for the gun when he was disrespected.

Dumb people + Guns in public = Bad outcomes
(See US police Officers for reference)

lol and a cop hater too.

I don't hate anyone. I dislike dumb people though, which is why you will likely go on ignore.

The police force intentionally discriminates against intelligent individuals, because they believe it will lover cost. But that's more of those tricky facts again...

Feel free.

So hire dumb people so they can do dumb things and get the department sued for big $$. Reasonable....:\

I just had to add your edit for another lol in case you tried to change it.

Owning a sharp knife increases your chances of dying from cuts inflicted by one of your own sharp knives. - Look at all the suicides committed by people slitting their wrists. You've got to include those stats, since the gun stat includes all the suicides (which account for 2 out of ever 3 deaths by gun).

Owning a bicycle increases your chances of dying from injuries sustained while riding a bicycle. Can you make the same argument that in much of the US, you neeeeed a bicycle?

But, I'm still not explaining the point of what he pointed out - owning lawn darts increases your chances of being killed by a lawn dart. Having a bathtub in the house increases the chances of slipping, falling, and dying in a bathtub. (Bathtubs weren't always common in houses.) Eating hotdogs increases your chances of choking to death on hotdogs. The point is, DUH, of course owning a gun is going to increase your chances of dying from a gunshot. It would be stupid to claim otherwise. And, while some seem to think that statistic carries some super importance to it, it's nearly pointless.

Hey, I am not the one making that argument. The police force don't want to hire intelligent officers, because their studies show they have a higher turnover rate.

I agree with you here though. They are likely spending way more on lawsuits, than they save by hiring idiots.

But the ability to have a gun is a right, a car is not. Since cars are not a right, and kill far more people, we should severely restrict their availability. What's even worse is that many states actively allow criminals, illegal aliens, to drive.

No doubt the turnover is because of the crappy pay and the possibility of being shot.
Some police chiefs don't want to hire intelligent cops because they get bored and quit. Of course if somebody is really intelligent any job will become boring.

No. Theres too many guys putting in 30 years for that to be the case.
Its the smart ones who did it for a little while then found better careers elsewhere.
So those were the mediocre ones looking for a pension and didn't do/get caught doing something stupid.

I'd rather pay the police double, have higher quality guys and less stupidity. Our county, of 140K, just spent $42M on a new county complex. WTF? They needed a new building but columns, pavers, granite floors, etc....No. The city just bought 2 "armored vehicles" but didn't give the city employees a raise. They also spent $3M renovating an old bank building and $1M on a downtown alley. The police should take their time responding to calls from the city/county councilmen.

Geez why didn't he just say that instead if thats what he meant. Potato Potatoe I get you, you guys are too dumb to responsibly own a gun. It might just transcend spacetime and quantum jump out of the safe. Or you don't trust yourself to follow safety procedures and you have alot of "how did that get there" moments which by all means if you do please don't be within 1,000 ft of a firearm.

Intelligent and easily bored are two completely different traits you know right.
