4 day work week

No Lifer
I saw the Gov of New Mexico on the news this morning saying he wants to enact legislation to create a 4 day work week for gov't workers there in order to save on commuting cost/gas and utilities.

Where you work, would you be able to have a 4 day (longer hours each day) work week?

Only if everyone else did.

We kinda set our own hours and when the accountant went to a 4 day week that was abruptly ended by our owner.

I work an hour longer each day and get an extra day off every 2 weeks. Another person in the office does the 4 day work week thing though.

nono mosh, this IS a repost...a few discussions of a 4 day work week have taken place.

not one about the gov mandating one though.

in order to do this we would have to work 10 hours a day and we are not allowed to work through lunch so that means we would have to be at work a total of 11 hours a day. I don't know how many people would be willing to do this.

We currently have an option for flex time. We work 1 extra hour a day and get a day off every other week, or a half day (working from home) every week.

I think this is a repost Mosh, we just talked about this.

missed it if we did, obviously 😛
just saw the gov on the news this morning, so hence the thread.

The government part is new so I guess your safe.

I wouldn't mind doing it but I would have to figure out day care/preschool pick up and drop offs. Be kinda trickier with a longer work day, but we could probably figure something out.

used to, we had 10 hour days which were great...Friday sat and sun off.

I wonder how many people will be thrilled to work 4 days a week but BW&C about working longer shifts?

Unfortunately the hospitals and staff that my team support work 24/7. We run pretty lean so losing a team member a day a week would hurt.

A better option for us would be telecommuting on days we don't have meetings or responsibilities that require us to be onsite.

I already work 10 hour days... but only because I get OT now. I'd definitely do 4 10-hr days for a 4-day work week if I were salary. What's better than just working 4 days? 3-day weekends. 😀

Same here, used to work 4 day weeks at my last job.

Here in TN, we were talking about hte same thing at my job. We may end up doing it eventually, but since the place is based on a 5 day work week we'd have to work on scheduling. We're not currently doing a lot of overlap, responsibility-wise. We'd have to crosstrain before we could do it. I'm sure we'll probably go for it in the next 6 months if it gets approved by HR.

I can do 4x10 but I don't. I have no qualms about going in on Friday, but sometimes I'll work from home for a bit and only go in on Friday for a couple hours then go see a movie 😀.

The county I live in here in Michigan has decided to do that for city workers. I think it will be good. If I had the oppertunity, I would love to work only 4 days, even if that meant longer hours.

I did it for 4 years. 10 hour days. Was hard though since my commute was 1.5 hours each way. But I did love having every Friday off.

I would love to have 4 day weeks. LOVE IT. I already work around 10 hours per day most days so it wouldn't impact me much normally.

I wouldn't mind. I currently work 5 6-hour days, so working 4 8-hour days would actually increase my pay and I'd have Friday off 😛

My boss was actually just talking about giving all of the Network Support team here a chance to assign each person on the team a day in which they will work from home. Its not exactly a 4 day weekend, and I'm still working on that day, but man it would be great to not have to spend the cash to drive in.
