I was wondering if my Thermaltake Ultra 120 extreme isnt on my CPU correctly.
After 10 hours of Prime 95 core 0 and 1 are 47 degrees while core 2 and 3 are 42 degrees. Thats a rather big difference......

Is this normal? Should I reseat my CPU heatsink?

The weight of the HSF creates a moment about the base that causes it to press against the half of the processor that's close to the ground, thus making better contact. Guess you could try firming up the contact with the coin trick or something

Most likely you either have a loose mount (as mentioned above), an uneven HS base (TRUE's are infamous for this), or uneven CPU IHS.

Any/all of these things are probably causing the temp difference. You could try increasing the mounting tension, and if that doesn't work, try lapping the CPU and HS.

Even with the stock HSF on my Q6600 I have a 4-5 deg difference. Pretty normal, don't panic. There was another thread about this and everyone had 3-5 deg difference between cores. That said, it won't hurt to lap the HS and cpu as long as you know what you are doing. It is possible to make them worse...

Yes, this is a common issue. There has been numerous reports that their 45nm CPU have 5-7C difference between Core 0+1 and 2+3. Nothing to worry about, even mine has 6C difference under Prime95.

Okay thanks. I would lap my heatsink and CPU but I dont want to void my warranty.... I am pretty sure the tention is as good as it gets with my HSF. I don't want to strip it out.
