My french is a bit rusty (as in, I've never actually learned any), but I think I was able to successfully register.

I'll vote for Rosetta over NRG@home and RNA world if I'm able to log in.

Looks like you have to be confirmed by an admin to login/post:

Ah, thank you so much [2w]Searcher! I am now registered and everything is in English. I'll go cast my vote now.

Voted for Rosetta b/c I'm concerned that the others might run out of WU's the way that Correlizer did in the SETI.Germany race.

OK, I am in too.
Dis I understand this correlctly?
Just for the race in RNA-world:

1. You leave your "home team" and join thge "Charity team"
2. You crunch for the Charity team and race.
3. When the race is over, you rejoin the "home team"

Is that correct?

🙂 Hello Peter,

yes your Posting was absolut correctly. This was a CARITY by BOINC, so will all Crunch in this 2 Weeks, only for the CHARITY TEAM.
😎 But feel Free, by this 4. CHARITY TEAM RACE, to enjoy the Overtakes by all another Teams and your Teammates. So you have a Racefeeling, you to all another Teams and all another Teammates 😀.

🙂 Hello Teammates and Friends from TeAm AnandTech,

This as Information for you :

There has been a question regarding the apps to choose for the Race. Here's Norman's reply to SEARCHER :

English

Hi Joachim,

Well, the most popular WUs are cmsearch S as they can be crunched quite quickly and with few ressources.
Unfortunately, this can result in a shortage on the server.

Therefore, only cmsearch XXL remains but with longer or a veeeery long runtime and a larger request of RAM. What is funny is that, for many reasons, the apps do not have any checkpoint and the main developers did not find it necessary. The apps have been developed for HPC, not for BOINC, where RAM and duration play no role.
Only Linux 32bit is writing checkpoints.
Thus, I'd recommend solid computers, running for a long time and having more than 2 GB of RAM (4 would be better) for the longer WUs.
Also check "keep apps in memory" in the Boincmanager.
For the time [of the race] you should also deactivate the Windows updates or put them on manual reboot.
If you need to shut down your computer(s) overnight, take care to shut it/them down in hibernate modus (write-to-disk).

Well, yes

As we only distribute CMSEARCH S AND XXL at the moment, the choice will not be very difficult to make

kind regards
Norman

P.S. Welcome biodoc[TA] in the CHARITY TEAM.

Scientifically, RNAWorld is one of my favorite projects but it does require significant RAM resources to run smoothly. I agree with Norman's assessment that Searcher posted above. Definitely check "leave applications in memory" in your boinc preferences and also take a look at how much memory you are allocating to boinc in your preferences. I have 90% for both "while computer is in use and not in use and 75% of swap/pagefile. I would also recommend 1 gig of RAM per core if you are going to crunch a mixture of the cmsearch S and XXL WUs. Another interesting thing about the Work Units is RAM usage changes as the Work Unit progresses. I have seen boinc "waiting for memory" notices on a 4 core computer with 4 gigs of RAM when 3 out of the 4 cores are working on the "very long" XXL WUs. Fortunately the latter are quite rare. Also the boinc "progress bar" is meaningless on the very long XXL Work Units so be patient on these because they may take a very long time to finish. As Norman mentioned above, no checkpointing on windows or 64-bit linux so a stable OS is critical and if you crunch this project on your main computer that you use quite frequently for other purposes, you may want to set up separate preferences (home/work) in boinc for that computer (cmsearch S WUs only).

I can't wait for the race to start!! 🙂

🙂 Hello all Teammates and Friends from TeAm AnandTech,

I present you the CHARITY CONTEST LOGO :

The lack of checkpointing kills this for my main machine. I tried to suspend the project while doing other work and the silly thing went back to no progress completed. So, only 14 cores will be available.

🙂 Hello all Teammates and Friends from TeAm AnandTech,

English :

A quote :
I'm considering these things XXL abort execution ! How is your opinion ?

Answer Norman : The XXL things with the names included are monsters INTRON WU and progress can expect several days / weeks despite 100% on.

They should be counted only to systems that run 100% stable and best 24 / 7 the week and shutting down always with suspend to disk (hibernate) due to lack of checkpointing.

The deadline should be just simply post in the forum under specification of WU ID. yoyo or something else then the deadline is extended.

🙂 Hello all Teammates and Friends from TeAm AnandTech,

English :

A quote : I become more Credits for a XXL-WU as by a S-WU ?

Answer Norman : In the long run, the XXL-WU more than 2 or 3 days takes a different credit system.
A bonus system that awards up to twice as many credits as for the short WU.
This is adjusted in steps.
So when someone delivers a WU e.g., the 5 days went much more he gets points for such WU.
The reason is that because the apps offer no checkpointing and at such long maturities is still a certain risk is the calculation of "messing". The perseverance should be rewarded.

Yes, there are large bonuses for the long XXL Work Units but most take 2-3 weeks to crunch depending on the speed of your processor. I've go 3 of them on my 1090T and I hope they finish before the race deadline. 😉

🙂 Hello all Teammates and Friends from TeAm AnandTech,

English :

Post from Norman : The cms-S WU be drawn faster than the server can produce them.
This is the drawback but it is working on them. Do not worry

@ biodoc, I have before 2 WU`s same you and I scare first very much. But then the first WU was finished by 76 h and the second WU was finished by ca. 86 h . 😉 Wait and see, See and wait.

🙂 Hello all Teammates and Friends from TeAm AnandTech,

English :

Question :
My computer has been working on a very long WU over 45 hours, estimated time is now around 224 hours. How much credits may I expect on this WU ? BTW deadline is on February the 3th. I'm going to ask somebody to extend the deadline.

Answer Norman : In the credits, it also depends on wingmen. e.g., if the wingmen twice as fast as your own host there sites other than credits equally strong.
I can not say exactly how many credits to jump out now, but in fact it will be damned I think a many large 5-digit number.

🙂 Hello all Teammates and Friends from TeAm AnandTech,

English :

Post from Norman :
Great performance, I say. Even the XL-WU, sometimes really pack a punch in the running time will be attacked, and mastered with the right commitment.
Loss of computer time at e.g. Reboot, crash or computation errors are apparently easily accepted.
Phew, because you can not say THANK YOU enough. Really a great Team.
Respect !
