CMI 8738 4 Channel Sound card

I ordered a few of these cards and will try them out this weekend to see how they work. They look like the SB live cards. They have Linux drivers.cmi8738

Regular price: $19.95 Sale price: $16.95, 2/$32.95, 5/$78.75, 10/$150.00

Their shipping rates are cheap for me but I am only about 400 miles away from them.
Also they have great prices on their cases also. I got a full tower shipped for $66

They don't look like soundblaster live card.. not even close..
The lack of chips on the card tells me that this probably utilizes CPU more than the SB live cards..

still good price..

Eww, a CMI (CMedia) 8738-based soundcard?
I had that chipset on a highly integrated mobo with onboard audio.
It flogged and thrashed the CPU whenever it was generating output.
I wouldn't purchase one of these abominations at ANY price.
C'mon, you can get an SBLive Value just about anywhere for $40; it's not that expensive, you know, and it's supported on just about every OS platform. Not only that, it doesn't load down the CPU like these cheap "Host Signal Processing" audio cards do...

Here's an even cheaper 4-channel card, at $13.95:
Sensaura

I don't know much about the above one (although Sensaura is well supported), but the same company carries this very well reviewed one, based on the Yamaha YMF744 chipset, for $25.95:

Yeah a thread on the lowest prices found for a Live would be nice. Pricewatch does not always show you the lowest price out there for different things. Like computer cases, I find lower prices then pricewatch doing a search on a brand myself using search engines.

Can anyone recommend a good ISA sound card? I have an old Pentium 166 I want to give to my parents to use and it only has ISA slots open. THanks.

I think the SB AWE64 is probably the best ISA sound card around. I have an old one floating around somewhere - PM me if you are interested (please, no flames - I am just trying to be helpful and IMO it really is the best ISA card).

Oh yeah the AWE 64 is a great ISA card. I put one in a system for my dad. I wish I had some more of those around.
