Hey guys,

I currently have stock cooling in my PC... Antec fans, dont know the model number. All I know is that they are 80mm. They are however VERY loud... abnormally loud. So I am looking to purchase four new ones. I would like Quiet ones, but also at the same time very cool... I am looking to spend no more than $100.00 on it.

I have looked at Newegg, but I'm very computer illiderate so I don't know which ones are good. Any help would be great! Thanks guys!

Is that too much? Or too little? Like I said, I don't know much about fans or cooling. hehe. I just want to be able to overclock a bit better than I already am. Also, recommendations for a good heatsink fan would be great as well!

I am running a P4 3.06b

bgmicro.com - has panaflo (fan1003) for $3.19 each - quiet but don't pass a lot of wind ;) . They have lots of others - the Aavid 120ma units (fan1055) ought to be nearly as quiet and give a bit more flow. The Aavid 160ma (fan1056) is the next step up power wise. The CyberCooler (fan1074) could be good for only $1.99 - sounds like it has the normal 3-pin connector. The Sunon (fan1079) at 200ma could be useful as well. And then there's the (fan1073) Delta 1.5" (38mm) thick 1.5 Amp unit that could cause your case to implode!
. Be aware that these are new surplus fans, so may have different connectors than are normal for computers, various wire lengths, or (as the Aavids and Sunon) no connector at all, etc - but are the standard size. IAC, all are cheap enough that you could buy one of each for evaluation and not be out more than $20. shipping included...

Get the Panaflos. I have 4 of them in my case and they do a bang-up job (quietly ;)).

Okay, so Panaflos it is... now how about a Heatsink + Fan? I am currently using the stock one that came with my Intel processor... I want to be able to overclock this more than I have(3.06 @ 3.34, 147fsb)

Any recommendations plus places to get them at?

I'll toss in a good heatsink with the fans, only $75 shipped. :p

Okay, enough messing around with ya. Check out SVC.com

They carry Panaflos, and they also carry a lot of heatsinks (I'd recommend any of the Thermalright brand heatsinks).

The Zalman CNPS700a-AlCu is your cpu cooling friend. Virtually silent, good price (don't forget those thermalrights don't include fans!) and one heck of a performer.

you could go with the zalman if you're really looking for reduced sound, however, you said you want to cool things down to keep on overclockin', different case fans won't make a huge difference in overall cooling, which you obviously want if you're going to overclock more, so upgrade the zalman to an thermalright slkxxx-x, throw a vantec tornado on it, and get a fan controller of some kind. not only will you be able to cool things down when you need to (like no other with 119 cfm), but when you want it quiet, just turn it down, and it beats the zalman.

a little more expensive, but if you have 100 bucks to spend on case fans... i think you can spare the green. :D

which SLK model do you recommend exactly? Also, any web sites you recommend me purchasing from? Thanks!

Okay, here it is. Tell me if this will be good:

I think I'm going to purchase the Thermalright SLK-947U Heat Sink with the Vantec Tornado fan. For my regular case fans, I'm going to get 4 Panaflo 80mm fans.

It will cost me around $70 total for everything. What do you guys think of that set up?

If your getting a powerful and loud cpu fan (guessing it's loud) then why worry about the noise from these fans?

My LED Case fans are the loudiest fans on system. I have the Zalman CNPS700a-AlCu on high and it's not that loud.

On my other rig I have 4 PC Power and Cooling 80mm fans that push 27c@20db. There about 7bucks each with free shipping. The powersupply is louder than these fans.

Wishing I had a different chipset. I can only overclock my 3.06@3.22 due to Memory. Even then the max is 156FSB with no AGP/PCI locking :(. It still performs with the best of them!

Good Luck!

The Tornado is pretty loud unless you throttle it back with a controller. I have some Dr. Thermal V77L (13$ shipped at newegg) coming today which works very well out of the box. I'm going to use a 70-80mm adapter w/ a quiet 80mm fan and see what happens. I'll post my findings here when I'm done if you want.

Woah woah woah there, cowboy. :Q

I put an 80mm Vantec Tornado on my Alpha PAL8045T to cool a Barton 2500, and I'll tell you. . . That Tornado honestly sounds like a vacuum cleaner. 5000rpm is pretty much overkill. I hooked it up to a Vantec Nexus fan controller and turned it down all the way and it could still go lower and never overheat. If you're looking for quiet, DEFINITELY don't use a tornado. I'm not exaggerating about the vacuum cleaner sound, either.

I'd suggest getting a large Alpha heatsink that will fit on your P4 and then using a low rpm fan to cool it. The only bad thing about my heatsink is it's big and ugly, so if that sort of thing bothers you, you can get much fancier-looking heatsinks. The strategy is to get a great big monstrocity of a heatsink, then you can get away with a lot less fan, just make sure the heatsink you find will fit on your motherboard. They have a tendency to put large capacitors around the CPU socket that can get in the way of the big boys.

I've got a question for y'all: I've been running all my fans on my Nexus at the lowest speed, so I'm thinking of just selling my Nexus and buying all lower rpm fans. I've got a big aluminum Cheiftec case that holds 4 80mm fans. Does anyone have any experience with some good quality, low rpm fans? I'd like to put in some fans that won't crap out on me anytime soon. It seems like you guys really like those Panaflo fans, are there any others that you've found to be any good? I've just been picking through what the fellas at Newegg have and there's tons to choose from. Which ones do you like best?
