Complete and utter bullshit,
100,000Kg of gold is worth $5.12B alone and take up 5 cubic meters. Google says that 30m yachts displace 150 tons, so with all that gold the rest of the boat must be made out of paperboard.

30m yachts run under $20M

that is dumb

look at that bad ass yacht Abramovich has for a fraction of the price compared to that piece of shit for 4.5bn

(ps: i don't mean its literally a piece of shit, just its not worth it and whoever bought it is obviously dumb)

I'd go with this too. If you look at the interior pics, there's NO BLING in there. WTF?!

A yacht with that much gold should resemble something more like King Tut's throne.

I call shens. Even for the richest people in the world a $4.5billion yacht would be a reach. That'd be what almost 10% of their net worth, and there's not a lot of them that have that much money (and most of them have their money tied up and/or spoken for).

That's exponentially more than most cruise ships, that's aircraft carrier money.

It was probebly built for a Saudi prince. Those Oil sheiks are silly rich. They even buy gold plated cars.

How much gold has been mined?

The best estimates available suggest that the total volume of gold ever mined up to the end of 2009 was approximately 165,600 tonnes, of which around 65% has been mined since 1950.

i think someone has missed a decimal somewhere...

165000 tonnes = 165,000,000 kg

so assuming its half gold and half platinum then 50,000 kg is only a small portion of the total mined gold.

If it's only gold plated, they wouldn't need anywhere near 100 tons of gold and platinum to do the job. To reach 100 tons, they'd probably have to build the whole thing out of gold, which would make for a terrible ship.

Either the story is made up entirely, or the 100 tons figure is off by a couple of orders of magnitude.

The whole thing looks chopped. The first picture "action shot" looks totally fake. The bedroom looks CGI. Only the dining table and back deck look OK.

that is pretty insane.

i saw this boat off the coast of bardados when i was there, and we also took a snorkel trip that circled it.

there was this "garage" on the side for a smaller boat to pull into, and there were 2 guards on each side of hte garage with machine guns accross their chest. then later on in the week we saw the actual owner on the shore on some beach chairs where we stayed with 2 body guards. baller status.

Yeah, when you consider that Paul Allen's Yacht (413 ft) cost $200 million to build, this story seems a little beyond belief.

What blows my mind isn't how expensive these superyachts are to initially build, it's how expensive they are to maintain. Allen spends $384,000 per week on yacht for upkeep, fuel, crew, etc.

Gold plating is very thin. You could probably gold plate an entire aircraft carrier with 1 ton of gold.

Anonymous businessman : aka criminal

I will give them credit though they discovered the only way for a boat not to be a depreciating asset.

Paul Allen does have great taste.
