4.29 Finals fix the Win2k Problems?

I was just gonna ask that same question 🙂 Anyone else have any thing good or bad to report?

I just installed w2k pro fresh and loaded the 4.29 beta and they are working fine. The drives all show correctly and the performance is good. Not as good as win98se, but almost. I noticed that some of the files were updated in the 4.29 final from the beta. I will update it and see if it improves my HD performance. DVD playback is awesome as usual. I noticed PIO mode enabled by default, but UDMA is now enabled. No problem.

So far I am really liking W2k pro... With the default (disk supplied) Radeon drivers, the 3114 beta would not install, I am getting 104fps in Quake3 at 32bit. I am confused because I was reading how bad w2k drivers are supposed to be. That is just as good as W98se for me??? In Nocturne the colors are goofy, but an updated driver should solve that..hopefully.

Now, on to try the 4.29 final....

I just went from the 4.29 betas to the finals with no problems... but yeah, there has definitely been problems with these for some other people. Some have said to remove your old drivers first then install the new ones, but I never bothered to.

I installed the 4.29s and it indeed trashed my system. I don't really remember the particulars of what caused it. Here are my specs in case you do decide and it looks similar to you.

1Ghz Athlon Classic (non-oced)
Abit KA-7 (non-100)
256MB Corsair PC133 CAS3
nVidia GeForce DDR w/DT 1050
Plextor 12/10/32A
Pioneer 12X DVD
Netgear Fast Ethernet card
Win98SE/2K w/DX8.0a

After trying to install, the 4.29s BSODed and I couldn't get past the dual boot screen.
I tried to restore the previous working setup but that didn't work and then tried repairing Win2K through 98 and that failed too. So I just fdisked my Win2K HDD and did a clean reinstall with 4.29 which worked.

I know what you mean, crappy Win2k performance seems quite untrue. But I'm curious what res you're running in Quake 3 to get that high FPS?

I updated to the 4.29 final without any problems. My Sandra banchmark went up, but not much. I can't complain. Just under 40,000 where I was about 43,000 in Win98se (RAID 0).

GCLIV It must be the cold syrup. I went back into quake3 to check my settings and noticed it at 640x480. I must have forgotten to hit "accept". At 1024x768 32 bit I am at ~70fps (playing an MP3 and connected to the web just now). Good enough. I did update to the 3102 drivers. The 3114 beta's refuse to install.

I went from the 4.28 drivers (which were working fine for me) to the 4.29 and I was not able to boot my box anymore. I even d/led the files from viatech.com's website and they still caused the BSOD on startup.

This never happened to be before using VIA's released drivers, so I'm pretty pissed. Oh well, should have backed up my files before hand.

I had a dual win2k/me, and had 4.25 via's in, and upgraded in win2k to 4.29 and trashed everything. after a clean install they work great though!

I tried the finals and they messed up my boot but I was able to recover it. I have a MSI k7tpro2-a if this helps.

does anyone know if they fix the problem w/ Burning and DVD Playback? I installed the 4.28 and was not able to burn (TDK Velo 12/10/32 + Win2k Pro).

Anyway, thanks for any info...
