4.29 finaled, this time on VIA's site

Loaded them about two weeks ago. "Finals" were posted on another site; got the link here. They work fine. No apparent difference in benchmarks, nor everyday operation. However, I've noticed (during my admitted limited experience w/AMD CPU's and associated chipsets, that these darn VIA drivers mean everything i.e. all that and a bag o' chips, to how poorly or how well your AMD system operates. Everyone raved about thew 4.28's and they totally dogged my system. S_L_O_W would describe them. The 4.29's have hooked me up big time. Thanks LXI. BTW, where you been, man? I've missed your truthfully sarcastic comments and replies! 🙂

I've always been around 🙂, not as often as I use to because of heavy school work. I just downloaded this and there is a 1K difference between them and the ones I got off of VIAHardware two weeks ago, I assume it's no difference in those. Both 4.28 and 4.29 ran fine for me, but I agree these drivers are absolutel vital to VIA/AMD based systems.

Im building a K7T Turbo-R rig right now, with mostly the same specs, you can click on my rig page and see whats in there.

i downloaded the "final" at some site. That made my entire system get hosed in win2k. I downloaded the real final at via's site. And it worked fine. I'm in win2k. ALso i had the system working perfectly except for a dual monitor problem (which apparently i cant fix) without the VIA's installed. I installed them and i still have that problem so i guess they dont do very much

When installing the new 4-in-1 drivers, do you have to uninstall the old ones or just overwrite them?

For what reasons should I consider updating my 4 in 1 drivers? Are there any performance gains? I am running the ones that came with my mobo and they are running fine. If I did update them do I need to reload my video drivers too.

I just normally install the latest Via drivers they just update the old ones, never had to reinstall the Video card drivers yet.

🙂

Cool, I also installed the 429 final from viahardware.com. Great drivers , working fine under Win2k. 🙂

Quick question.
If you're running Win 98 and AGP video do you install all 4 drivers?
Do you even need these if you are running 98?
Mac

Thanks... I just got a VIA board and although things seem fine, an update sure wouldn't hurt. 😉
Didn't know WHERE to get the drivers from!

I seem to be getting weird problems.

Using setup.exe to update the VIA drivers.

Installing in Turbo mode... the file progress bar shows up to 100%, the "Updating hardware settings" comes up, another progress bar goes up to 100% and then system freezes.

Tried a few more times but same thing.

Anyone know what's wrong?

Using WinME and Pro2a.

For me, i will install 3 driver and will not install INF driver, since it will make my PC BSOD when entering standby mode
dont know why, at last i can find this cause of error, after several weeks in horror

I have a friend with an Abit KT7a-r who has been having troubles to no end with installing games from a CD. She finally reformatted and installed without using the 4in1 drivers and the CDRom is now working.
98SE
75GXP
Acer CDRom
clean installs, hard drive on one channel, CD on the other, no raid in use yet.

Why do the Via drives seem to work for some people and not others?

Culex, ever since I got a Radeon the via drivers do the exact same thing to my system when trying to install them. Here's what works for me---Install them in Safe Mode.Works like a charm everytime.

Thanks, will try.

As for waiting, forgot to mentioned I waited about 30-40 minutes.

No go.

Will try the safe mode 🙂
