hi guys...got the maxtor 80 gig hard drive with the ata 133 card this morning for 149.99 - 30 dollars coupon + 8 dollars tax for a total of 128 dollars...thing went very simple. offcourse i made my girlfriend buy it for me:), just in case i had any trouble with the sales rep because the damn coupon said get 30$ free when u buy something for 150 and above. anyways the rep was nice, didnt have to buy anything to push the price over 149.99. ill go in the weekend to either get 20 dollars back or buy something worth 20 dollars. for people who need a controller card for that additional hard drive, this is no doubt a terrific deal...get the damn hard drive now and for heavens sake dont go into minute details like it this fluid bearing or is the disk access time the best etc.For this price the value is unbeatable. No Amex , No Cross Store Pricematching Timeconsuming BS like that involved.

Just in case we've all forgotten about Staples Pricematching policy, time to visit staples page. Notice the first bullet says if the lower price is at a staples store, "The additional 10% of the price difference does not apply"

since i've never done a PM with staples, i was wondering about this (3rd bullet) - "Available coupons and rebates will be deducted from the Staples price to come up with a net Staples price when calculating the price match. "

Just got 1 from Staples B&M. $30 coupon $10 gift card. Hope the price adjust works, if not still a decent deal for $119 tax included.

relax people ....in the worst case scenario after u get the drive u will get $20 worth of stuff from staples instead of getting the $20 back.....alright. buy it when u can....which is now!

I just picked up the drive and a thing of white out. They took the coupon without a hitch and it came out to 130 and a few cents with tax. Hopefully the price match deally works out on Sunday.

Thanks for pointing out the deal on this drive to be priced at 129 this weekend. I hope that's right. But, if we use $30 off coupon, will Staples then ALSO honor a pricematch if they've already given $30 off previously on the coupon?

I wouldn't ask, but given Staples new policies on coupons and discounts, would they argue that "we already had our price drop with the coupon?"

Thanks you guys.

The coupon doesnt show up in the staples section on fat wallet. Is it somewhere else on the website or have they removed it?

it's in their hot deal forums

Possibly... depends on your local staples. Some csr care and others dont.

For those of you that got this drive already--does WinXP detect it as "MAXTOR 6 L080J4 SCSI Disk Device"?

I know that physically printed on the drive is the designation that the drive has the fluid bearings, which would be 6L080L4. But WinXp seems to detect my drive as having ball bearings, hence the 6L080J4. Did any of you notice this?

So which is correct? Do I have a ball bearing or fluid bearing drive? ;/

This is weird... this deal needs no rebates or anything stupid, and I'm still really confused by it.

All I know is, tomorrow I'm running to staples with my credit card and my printed 30/150 coupon and buying this drive.

Then what do I do on 4/21? PM it to what price?

Ok once and for all...i got this drive and installed it..the box says it is L01J080G...but when u install the drive it is detected as 6L080L4...which according to the maxtor website...is a drive with fluid bearings or whatever......the drive is sweet and works very very quiet...i cannot hear anything.....

Ok. This is slightly off topic. But If anybody gets in on this deal and doesn't want the
IDE controller, I'll buy it off them (I was thinking $15 plus shipping). That would make the price
of the drive ~ $95. PM if interested.

I got mine... like ~$129 with tax. Could've nabbed it for 2 cents because the guy was a rookie and f'ed up my credit card. I should've just walked out but I asked if he was sure that the drive was $0.02. Ah well. Now how the hell is Staples gonna PM, when I all ready used a $30 off coupon??

I grabbed mine too. The manager didn't like the fact it was a printed coupon though, and gave me some trouble, but at the end I did get the drive for about $130. Now for the pricematching...

What is next if the manager rejects the coupon??? Can I get the drive from staples.com and then pricematch staples.com against the printed ad?

Just a comment, in the Staples in Clawson, MI the manager is a jerk. He immediately jumped over the copupon, saying those coupons are accepted only if they are real. Any printed coupon is "downloaded from other sites, because it was scanned by someone else"...

I am thinking going the Office Depot way. Do you know if I can order in the OD site, aply a coupon, ask for pickup and pay at the store??? When checking out, the OD sites gives payment options for CC, check and cash. Does any of these allow me to pay at the store for an online order???

Thanks

I'm gonna probably just grab this drive for the free ATA 133 card. I don't really need the hard drive:) I still haven't filled up those 80gb Western Digital hard drives from Bestbuy that were 75 after mir!

"Available coupons and rebates will be deducted from the Staples price to come up with a net Staples price when calculating the price match. For example, if you buy an item from us for $100, and we offer a $20 rebate, the net price is $80. If the item is available from another company for $80 or more, there will be no price match. Another example would be if you buy an item from us for $159 and you have a $30 coupon the net price is $129. If the item is available from another company for $125, the price match will be for $4.40 (110% of the difference). "
