4/20-4/21 American Idol Thread

I don't like manilow, nor his songs. But I must say he was one of the better guests, though not as a judge. The reason is that he seemed like the first guest who was able to remix his own song to suit an artist's style. Too bad his songs all suck anyway.

I noticed yesterday that diana looked really ugly. I don't know what the reason was, but basically the bottom half of her face reminded me of jabba the hut. Hopefully she fixes that next week, if she's back.

I really don't get why people like Jennifer Hudson(sp?). She's got power, but she looks ridiculous when she sings, and can only hit the power notes. I like fantasia even though she sings "yeah" too much and pretty much always tells the crowd to "come on yall". Latoya is good too, but I think her voice is a little too bland.

John Stevens... well I got tired of him after the first episode, even though I really liked him in that first episode. He's like the neuvo clay aiken for me. I liked clay but each time I saw him, I liked him even less up until I hated him. His voice is just too distinct and weird.

I have to say that I've been surprised at the caliber of songwriters that they've had in the past -- I never would've thought that Billy Joel or Elton John would be on the show. Now about the only person I'm sure wouldn't be on is Paul McCartney (which would be an interesting and potentially good episode).

I thought George did horrible but it shouldn't hurt him, Manilow songs just aren't his thing (or anybody's thing for the past 20 years for that matter). John needs to go, you cannot say that he is better than any of them there. He just doesn't have the power behind his voice or the personality to carry him through.

Yeah, it was last season. He wasn't actually a guest judge, but he met them (and presumably worked with them in the studio a bit) and was in a taped segment. They also had Smokey Robinson last season (not sure if there were any others or if there were any for the first season -- I started watching about midway through last season).

That sounds about right, although I'd maybe flip-flop Jasmine and Fantasia. I really really dislike Fantasia, but I think she'll outlast Jasmine (and I think she has more oomph to her in any case). If the competition ended today, I think George, Fantasia and Latoya would get record contracts and someone would probably throw a bone to Jennifer Hudson (or they'd drag her out on stage in 2-3 years like they're doing with the also-rans from the previous seasons).

John Stevens should have been voted off 5 weeks ago.

Tonights voting results have inspired me to start "block voting," though (ie: voting for the same contestant over and over again for a few hours). The bottom 3 was rediculous... those were the three best singers.
 
I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist, but do you think that the people that wound up in the bottom three had something to do with trying to spark interest in a show that is losing ratings?

Well, to be brutally honest, Fantasia is butt ugly, and the one voted off is fat, although its apparent the show got her on a diet because she lost alot of weight.

An ugly or fat chick will NEVER win American Idol. Is it wrong? Well, it is be but its the truth. Is it a double standard, as fat men and ugly men arent discriminated againt. Its just the way society is.

As for John Stevens still being there. Its simple. Hes the last white person left. He wont be voted off next week or the week after that.
 
digitalsm is right - sad to say, it'll be Jasmine, Diana, and probably George in the top 3. But dear god I hope John Stevens does horrible next week

Singing talent is just part of it. Fantasia is BUTT UGLY. The chick voted off is fat, although not as fat as she was, and she got rid of the fro that she once had. As far as the other chick, shes attractive, not fat, but doesnt have the vocal talent as Fantasia. Fantasia and the fat chick are not what americans want in a Pop Star.

Umm, the 2 I was talking about was Fantasia and Latoya not the fat one.
Dude, if you don't think Latoya is every bit as talented as Fantasia, listen to her singing "all by myself" in the semi-final.
 
I was praying for fugly Fantasia to lose. I'm so disappointed!! 🙁

That ugly child bearing big mouthed waste of precious oxygen needs to go next week!
 
it's really simple, majority of people that watch American Idol, and vote, are women. So, basically george got all the african american women votes, and John got all the white women votes. Which leaves all the sistas to scramble for votes. That's why most of the talent ended up at the bottom because the voting sistas voted for their man. Why would they vote for a woman? I hate to sound racist, but that's the demographics.

Now, I see that John will probably have a couple more weeks left before all the white ladies wake up and realize that he sux.

Personally I think Latoya should win, but she'll probably be another tamyra, and get voted off early.

I want to see next to goin this order: john, jasmine, diana

john sux
jasmine can't hold a steady note
diana is too fake, which leaves:

george, fantasia, and latoya leaving in that order, which makes latoya the next AI, I hope 🙂

george is too fake
fantasia, I can't stand her
latoya is the only true professional left
 
Listen to some of you guys commenting on what America wants is pretty damm funny.
Before last season I highly doubt America wanted a fat, color guy or a feminine, almost gay guy as their American Idol but we sure were wrong, weren't we ???

After the first 2 seasons, I thought that at the end, despite the performer's appearance, America always ended up voting for the talented ones.
We might be getting a winner not deserving to win this time around.
 
This is why voting for your favorite doesn't work. Either these three women split a vote across a demographic, or people didn't vote for them rationalizing that they were good enough that they didn't need "help."

With this voting structure, it's just a popularity contest... Instead of for the best talent.

the voter apathy is most likely what did in fantasia and latoya. seriously. they thought they'd be fine, so they went off and saved george, diana and jasmine. i think john stevens for some PSYCHO reason has a huge fan base, probably among older women who want a classy young man around.

latoya has the best voice. fantasia has a great voice. but they both have things against them - people don't want an american idol that's married with stepchildren OR someone necessarily with their own young child.

i'm not surprised jennifer went because i've been consistently picking her in the bottom because she has NO fans. NONE. no one wants to root for her really - which struck me as odd she got so many votes one week. i figured it was all the nutty middle aged women that kept voting for friggin kim locke last year.
