So far this one seems ok, the first two had serious edge lighting problems. Funny thing, both of those came from the Memphis warehouse, and this one shipped from Auston. All were rev A03 models.

They have also not sent any return shipping labels yet...think they might forget about these...hehehehe

I second that, YOu know how many monitors have bleeding problems? Jesus.

Sounds like thier putting out a lot of defective monitors. I admire Tweakin's vigilance in getting what he paid for.

Bite me. I spent a good amount of money on my Dell 2405 and I had to go through 5 exchanges till I got one that was perfect. Enjoy your defective monitor if you will, I have higher standards for products purchased with my hard earned cash

Thanks Zebo and Phantronius...regardless of the item, broke is broke. In the case of a LCD, I consider edge lighting a "major" defect. Hopefully this one burns in nicely.

Like the OP, I had to go through 3 Dell 2005 monitors before I finally got this one that has no backlight issues. By the way, you should be concerned about not receiving a return label. When they didn't do that with one of the monitors they sent me, I called them and requested one and they sent a UPS guy to pick it up. After he took the monitor and delivered it to them, they tacked on a fee on my account for the retail value of the monitor. It took me nearly two months to get the charge removed and it was a LOT of headache.

I actually just got off the phone with a senior Dell Technical Representative calling to see how my problems have been handled.

After several minutes of discussing the new warehouse in my living room, he assured me that the return shipping labels would be in the mail tomorrow, along with yet another 2005 as this one has started to bleed on the lower left side. It seems that the bleeding is starting after the monitor runs at operating temp for some time. The saga continues...

I wish...That Gateway is looking better and better all the time, but I will give Dell it's due for customer support....

I know the Gateway, Apple or NEC are much more expensive then the Dell, hence my first pick...but there may come a time when I have to say enough is enough...I'm not there yet, especially with Dell doing an outstanding job of trying to make me happy...more to follow as this evolves...

What about the Sony P234 23" 1900x1200? Sure it's $1400 or something like that but I bet it doesn't bleed. It also has a better response than the Dell so it should be better for FPS gaming. ;P

Yes it does...in darker games such as HL2, or during many parts of FarCry the bleeding makes that area "grayish" for lack of a better term, and it is very distracting to me. I guess this is one of those areas where it all comes down to personal use.

I think I would go pickup the Apple 21" before I would spend that kind of money...as 1900x1200 would suck every last bit of life out of my card.

Then you go on to say that
"Gray, black, whatever, its close enough to me "

So make up your mind...do you care about quality control and being able to purchase items intended to work properly, or is "close enough" good enough for you?

Backlight bleeding = poor quality control, faulty hardware. Unacceptable

Not true blacks = Current LCD technology drawback. Personal perference. Advantages of LCD's outweight lack of true blacks.

Its one thing to get a bad product but when you get two or three in a row of the same thing then its time to go with something else despite how good others (professional or nonprofessional) may say it is. Good luck getting a unit that works well.

That makes more sense to me...I was a little confused.
