I know a while back I saw a thread about people who had security systems in their homes that were installed by ADT, Brinks, etc but the contract had run out and they had signed up with some 3rd party companies just for the monitoring portion and saved a ton of money.

Couldn't find it via searching but maybe someone will remember it. If you can find that post, please let me know.

Or if you have information on doing this, let me know that too.

Thanks.

Oh come on, someone has to remember this. There was a big discussion about it. *sigh*

I have a security system (not ADT/Brinks as far as I can tell) come with the house... I signed up my own "central station" monitoring for $12/mo. Of course, it's local-only. What exactly are you looking for in that thread ?

we use this company:

Text

you have to pay for 12 months at time (but it is $9 a month) and a one time setup fee.

they call within 5 minutes if we accidentally set off the alarm.

The reason they are so cheap is that all they do is monitor. If you have problems with your alarm system hardware, they cannot help you.
