3rd gen Nest thermostat released... now with a clock!

It seems like they added a clock to it, a higher res screen and better motion sensor.

Probably not worth upgrading from a 2nd gen unit.

I'm sure the clock will be added in a software update, lol, but as for the motion sensor and resolution -- I got Nest so I don't have to adjust from the Thermostat/look at it. So the upgrade is meaningless to me. Maybe if it hits $150

Though honestly, if I was going to get a new thermostat -- Probably Ecobee at this point with geofencing and multiple location temp monitoring.

We love our ecobee. 3 remote sensors really improve temps in our house. Haven't tried geofencing yet. Any startup guides for that?

Ecobee is miles better than Nest. We got a free ecobee through our power company and it's been great. Also monitors my entire home power usage.

No clue. When I signed up the power company sent a contractor to install it and was up and running in 10 minutes. I guess the unit comes preconfigured to interface with my smart meter. It was a really sweet deal as I paid nothing.

I have been looking at that one as well mainly for the wireless remote sensors. It amazes me that all these new wifi thermostats don't have that capability, it seems such an obvious need in all but the smallest houses. Honeywell has one with this feature as well but it is part of their "pro" line and in theory only installed professionally although they can be purchased at Amazon.

If I have one complaint about ecobee3 it is that they don't push updates to the thermostat or even allow you to do it. You have to email support and they will manually update it. Seems silly.

Otherwise the thing has worked extremely well. Wish our humidifier had a wire going up to it so we could control it there also.
