I bought this barracuda harddrive http://www.newegg.com/Product/...p?Item=N82E16822148261

I was retarded and didnt notice that newegg was selling the same harddrive with the same combo deals and same price but with 16 mb cache instead of 8. Kinda sucks. I hope the performance difference won't be too painful.

Anyway, this hdd supports 3gb/s transfer. I have an older nforce 4 sli mobo, it is a Biostar n4sli-a9.

How do I know if my mobo supports this feature? I don't know if this feature was around when my mobo was released (about 2+ years ago).

Thanks.

The 3Gbps figure is because it's a Serial-ATA (SATA 2) drive. I googled "Biostar n4sli-a9" and quickly found that it has 4 SATA ports, so you're good to go. They might be SATA 1 (1.5Gbps), but that doesn't matter at this moment in time. Almost no hard drives really push the 1.5Gbps limit except possibly burst speeds.

Since you bought an OEM drive, it will not come with a SATA connector cable, so you'll need to buy one of these too, unless your motherboard came with some.

Cheers.

Thanks for response. I was hoping for that 3 gb/s as some kind of special feature but I guess its irrelevant. Wish I bough the 16mb cache one since its going to be my system drive but complaining over that is irrelevant when im running a 3 year old 2.2ghz san diego 939 with a measely 64+64 l1 cache and 512 mb l2 cache anyway lol.
