3ds Max 7 output question

This is the proper forum for this, correct?

I've made a landscape, and I want to output it as an AVI ( or anything really, doesn't matter too much ) but when I try and render it I get:

"Image I/O error, C:\Program Files\3dsMax\previews\_scene.avi - internal error. When I click close it says "error creating output file"

I can output an AVI of just the simple animation ( which is just the camera panning around the landscape ) but only in the camera viewport perspective ( not rendered ).

I realize that I have no I/O device, and am pretty sure that's the problem. What exactly are they? Google yielded no obvious result so I thought I'd turn to the pros. When I click Devices... the drop down menu has nothing, and just says "No I/O handlers found".

Does anybody have any idea how to fix this?

Thank you.

Heh, I thought it'd be as simple as that as well. No dice though, same error.

I was thinking I could output each frame as a bmp and then connect them like I would a gif? Would that work?

Edit: I swear I tried unchecking device last night and got the same error, but today it worked.

Thank you.

I never render as a movie, I only render as images and put them together in Combustion. You'll get cleaner results that way typicallyt
