3DMaxx mods Radeon 9800NP and Pro to 9800XT. Only a BIOS flash is required...

Can't say I'm suprised it works. My 9800np will hit more than the 432MHz that the 9800XT is overclocked to (in the drivers).

RAM would be the problem, I expect it's most likely to work with Samsung 3.0ns.

My Infineon 3.0ns won't even hit stock speeds 🙁 It sucks.

Just be carefull ppl. I thought I'd read the forums and a few ppl are not having much luck, however, some are 🙂

Think I'll leave alone for the time being... 🙂

Okay, lets say I have a 9800NP (Samsung 3.3) currently flashed to a Pro with no problems. What benefit and I going to have in flashing it to an XP? I mean, will the "Overdrive" work? I didn't think the standard 9800NP/Pro had a temp sensor to adjust the speeds.

EDIT: RAM speed corrected 🙂

Hmm... This looks interesting. My R9800np with 3.3ns Samsung flashed to Pro does 445/387 stably. I wonder if flashing would give me any more headroom.

Does anyone know of any problems flashing to XT might add? I thought the XT had a tiny bit of architectural changes, or is this just marketing?

I don't get it - I thought overdrive was monitored by sensors on the XT that the 9800's didn't have...

(Samsung 3.0)

Do you mean 3.3ns Samsung or Infineon 3.0? I don't think Samsung has a 3.0ns DDR chip that ATI uses on the 9800np.

I believe you're right there. I know mine are 3.3ns. OOPS! :Q 😛 😉 Thanks for the correction... 🙂

Bump... Wanna know if others have success here. I'm waiting on my RAM heatsinks before I try to overclock that high.

Yeah it is. Also I've heard the XT BIOSes are all for 256MB cards, but they work fine on 128MB 9800's apparently.

I'm not going to bother with the risk (I don't see any benefit in using it over the Pro BIOS except for having the "XT" name in Windows).

I think the R360 also has a few minor core improvements over the R350 (specifically in the pixel shaders), so I'm not sure how stable this flash will be if it identifies the card as an XT to the drivers.
