3DMark2k1 score seems low on my P4 3.06 HT + Ti4200

I have a HP 884n Media Center PC. I upgraded video drivers and have DirectX 9. Aniso and AA are turned off, nvidia drivers set to full performance.

Computer is:

3.06 Hyper Threading w/ 533mhz FSB.
512 DDR.
128mb Ti4200 w/ 8x AGP.

Getting 11,600 3dmarks. Looking through the comparisons, people are getting ~15,000 3dmarks with 64MB cards. The only thing I can see different is that my FSB is 133mhz in 3dmark, and the people with 15,000 have like 170+ FSB. Is that what is causing the shortage?

That's actually pretty average for a 64MB Ti4200 with stock everything. You'll have to start overclocking to get to 15K. Believe me.

Yep.. pretty average score... FSB makes a huge difference and overclocking your card would too

I have a 128 8xAGP, does that make any difference vs. the 64MB cards?

My bro just got a 64MB ti4200....on a 8RDA+, XP2200 (166x11) and he gets around 11500 3dMarks. I was impressed...thats about what my ti4400 got.

Yep...get a better video card if you want high scores. I get 14k with a radeon 9700 pro and 2.4ghz

I'm topped out at 12.5K with my current setup (Palomino XP2100 @ 144FSB, KT333, 512MB, Ti4200 64MB @ 300/600) - pretty good, I think.

WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT 3DMARK!!?? Why would you waste time installing that BS software that wasn't good for anything even before companies started writing hacked drivers...

Look, unless you're asking why does my 3GHZ p4 with a Radeon 9800 4GB RAM 15,000RPM HD cpu get 3,000 3dmarks and 15 fps in half life, no one wants to hear it...you're whining about a nonexistant problem...and i don't want to hear "i'm trying to get the most out of my system"

It's still perfectly fine for comparing a system to itself. Plus it gives some manner of quantitative performance to "a new 3D card will help your overall performance this much" inside of "OMG teh nu ATI is teh fast0rZ!"

I use it to comapare my system to itself - say before and after overclocking.

I also find it to be a good stability test. If you can loop 3dMark all night, you can do anything.

If it Is gaming then I would try and use the one that is
built into the game. I.E. Quake 3 / UT etc...

You should never rely on a benchmark like this to get more
out of your system. By this I mean that a few years back
I used to go for the highest score I could in 3dMark01
but only got marginal results with quake3
After optimising for quake3, I got solid Improvements with
My FPS but minimal with 3dmark

I am a firm believer that 3dmark is used only for braging rights
in some circles. Which goes to show you why most websites use
a wide variety of benchmarks. Tweaking to increase your score in
one can actually decrease your score in another.

This however does not go for overclocking
