3DMark2003 wont install??

I downloaded the free version and it only gets 1/3 of the way through the install process before it crashes. XP pops up that message that says it must end, and whether I want to send the report to MS. I have DirectX 9.0a but even if I didnt, it shouldnt affect the install procedure.

I have the AIW 8500 on Cat3.2 and Rage3d tweak, Athlon 2200+, 512MB RAM, and plenty of HD space. Any ideas?
