3DMark2001 score not really up to par...

This is my system -

Epox 8K7A
1.33Ghz Thunderbird
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
512MB PC2100 RAM

My score on 3DMark2001 was around 5800 and that seems really low for my system. Would adding 512MB or memory be the best way for improvement? Does anyone know offhand the fastest processor i can put in an Epox 8k7A motherboard?

No. That score seems about right. Adding more ram really won't help. However, don't let your 3DMark score get you down. That system will play most games nicely.

Well, i did the comparison to "others system's with the same processor but different video card" and needless to say there were worse video cards getting higher or the same score as me and other ATI Radeon 9500's getting 8000+ marks. So that's why i thought person it was a memory issue.

the problem with the 3dmark compare is it seems to compare with the top end of scores for your cpu. there's various other things you can do to basically fiddle the 3dmark score - increase process priority, change LOD blah blah blah. Of course on top of that there's actual overclocks which may/may not be mentioned in the description, 3dmark2001 also seems to really like FSB overclocks.

Here's my compare, faster cpu (2400+) and slower gfx (gf3ti200 oc 227/515), very similar memory, KT266a mobo. score 7800 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=6099966 - and ofcourse like everyone else i leave highest my highest one as the active one, more skew to the comparisons. Mine is also 100% stable and what im using now, some people just push for the highest score possible even if 3dmark is crashing 9 times out of 10.

I dont want to rip into the benchmark too much, basically any benchmark is only as good as it is used :)

Im guessing your score isnt far off what it should be, also guessing the "bottleneck" is your cpu. might find theres some BIOS settings that can be improved - simply turning on optimal ram performance in my bios added 500 points on a previous attempt (and >10% to pcmark2002 memory score), but proved unstable so i took it off... Rojack has a nice bios guide, mind the standard warning about being careful in bios and writing down current settings etc :)

The Radeon9500pro and other higher end video cards are very CPU dependant... See
The CPU used in greay is an Athlon 1Ghz (close to what u have) and the red is the AthlonXP2700+

Pretty much explains it all hope that helps!

Edit: broken linky :p This

Wow, I expected your score to be much higher than that, try comparing it, I don't want to sound like an a$$hole but I thought our systems would be somewhat close on the same level...

That score does sound about right for that system. Below is a link to a screen shot of my score I got with my system. You can see the specs on the system by using the link in my sig.

Why not post your results online for comparison?

At the time I did the benchmark to get that score. I did not do a online comparison which I should have done. I was shocked that I got my system to get that score many times over. I took a screenshot of it and saved it.

well it does seem rather low... don't know if your cpu is indeed holding your 9500 back...

i have a p3-s @ 1.33 with 512mb pc133 and a GF3 Ti500 i get scores around ~6300-6500 so i guess you're around there

my bro had a BX with a 1.1A Celeron @ 1.5 512mb pc133 and an 8500... he got around 9k... about 200 or so points away from 10k

Previously I had a P3 933 @ 1008 mhz w/ a GeForce 3 (Original) and I pulled the same score as yours.

It is a bit low, I got just over 10k marks on an old 1.4 Athlon + Sis735 + Geforce4 Ti4200 @300/625.

Installing the latest AGP drivers for my SIS735 knocked that up 800marks, Detonators 40.41 increased it by 700marks too.

any body use 3Dmark 2003? what kind of scores?

Mine was 4,000 something, seemed low, but i've never used 2003 b4.

(the games on 2003 are sweet looking, anybody ever played them?

my pc is only slightly better when it comes to the cpu. but your video card is superior to mine.

here is my system
512mb ddr
athlon xp 1.47 ghz
geforce4 ti4200 128mb

i get 11200 on the 3dmark 2001. something is defenatly wrong with your system set up. Are you running FSAA or filtering while the 3dmark is running?

you have a radeon 9700 pro -similar cpu- and you expect it to be "close" to a gf3ti200?

our relative scores are reasonably inline with the relative scores on the THG charts, 7800 vs 12200 (156%); THG's 8400 vs 15500 (185% on the XP 2700 that the 9700pro should benefit more from).

having said that, looking at the compare some of the game demos are surprisingly close, with the glaring exceptions of dragothic and nature. fully synthetic benches it pulls away yet more though.

Athlon XP 2000+
ATI Radeon 8500LE
256MB RAM

I tested mine on 3DMark2003.. and got 7500.. is that bad or good?

I would have asked in my own topic.. but decided to ask here since its already started.

that is exactly where that radeon 8500le falls in.
