I just reinstalled winxp and thought I would test 3dmark2001 on my new system. I know the people who submit results to madonion do tons of tweeking and overclocking to achive high scores. but mine seems unusually low.

XP 1700+ running at 2000+
MSI Nforce2 MB with latest drivers
MSI GF4 440mxse (yuck I know hehe)
Kingston 512 DDR333

like I said I just installed Winxp clean. I ran 3dmarks and got 3850. I know my video card is pretty trashy, but when I compared the results on the web site to people with supposively the same setup, the lowest score was 7100. I know some of those dude let it run many tiimes back to back and that pushes up the score some what. But I'm wondering WHY my score is so low. Shouldn't I be getting a mid 5000 score at least? (without the tweeking & OC'ing)

Are you sure you have the latest AGP drivers for your mobo installed? If so, check to make sure you are actually running at 4x AGP (under your display properties, there should be a tab). If not, you BIOS settings probably need to be adjusted. I find those AGP issues are usually what hold up 3DMark 2001 performance under default conditions.

Honestly that doesn't sound too bad. I think that card is equivalent to a GeForce2.

I have the latest Nforce drivers installed, interesting, I can't set the AGP size in my bios to anything above 64 megs. If I do, when I reboot it POST's then before XP loads it just reboots.

As for the scores sounding good, people are getting almost 2x scores with the same CPU/Video card. I wouldn't say good :) I mean the system runs fairly well.

a Geforce4 mx with DDR clocked to standard speeds is substantially faster than a geforce2. However, the SE that QueBert has is clocked lower, and depending on the model, may even have SDR memory or just as bad, 64 bit DDR. if you have SDR or 64 bit DDR on your board, i could definitely see you getting a score of under 4000.

I can tell you straight up no one has gotten a 7100 from an SE model which has the sdram...the gf4mx line is only direct x 7.0 compliant.....

My GF4mx 440 I had was a gainward golden sample ocer I could oc to 315/620 (well above any stock 460mx and to ti4200+ levels) and I got 8000 as my best with system listed below....default speed or safe mode (250/500)did just at 7000...but it has 64mb of ddr and my system runs at high fsb...

I also had an old Gf4mx 440 a year ago as a replacemtn card and the best I could do on that card was 5800 but that was with much older det drivers and my system at time was only doing like 2.4ghz from a 1.8a for much lower ram and fsb speeds...

Waht version of detonnators are you running???
