is it just me or is 3dmark06 super depents on the type of cpu you have (single core or dual core)

i'm only getting 69xx in 3dmark06 using oced 7900 gtx sli (with the rig below) when people with dual core are getting around 9000

can someone testify?

Shouldn't be CPU dependant at all (Or very very little).

Make sure to skip the CPU tests just to get a pure GPU score.

Other than that there shouldn't be much of a difference at all.

i'm 100% sure that cpu score is caluculated into 3dmark06 score

you can't complete the test if it weren't tested

No. In 05 (Which is the same less the SM3 and HDR features) after you finish the GPU test and while it is loading the CPU tests, just hit escape. It will then give you your score.

Look at the results for all the people who are obsessed with benchmarking. If you are trying to get the most accurate report from 3dMark concerning your graphics card, then you skip the CPU tests.

Yes i have done it. No not in 06 because i dont bother with benchmarks anymore. The score means nothing as long as my games work.

It is CPU dependent mainly based on if you have single or dual-core. If you have dual-core your CPU score will generally be doubled compared to a single-core CPU. Most single-core CPU score ~1000 and most dual-core CPU score ~1800 so yeah 800 point difference right there if you have dual core.

the benchmark i was talking about was 06 and it doesn't work for 06 because cpu is taken into account as 1dark1sharigan1 mentioned

so if i were to upgrade to a dual core cpu, which i won't, my score would rise from 69xx to 9xxx in 3dmark06?

can't believe cpu makes such a big difference in this synthetic benchmark
anyhow, i was just trying to see if my system is performing as it should

No, shouldn't be a 2000 pt difference. If you have 6900 now you would get around 7800 with Dual Core.

from what i'm seeing in this link, i should get somewhere around it since many people are getting mid to high 8000 with only their 7800 gtx sli (even the oced ones are much lower in comparison to my oced 7900 gtx sli)

06 is way too CPU dependent, much more than any normal game. Although 6900 still seems a bit low for those cards. I get 7300 something on 7800 GTs (with a single core), which are around half as fast.

On the chart, the highest scores for a GTX SLI (256mb) is 81xx, so you'll just be a little below that if you get a dual core, right around 77xx. Just OC the cards some more. Some of the guys have cpu's scoring over 2000, which is pretty damn good.

Edit: just noticed you have 7900 GTX system, are you using the bridge with your modded ultra?

this is stupid, you dont need a dual core cpu so you can score more points in some stupid benchmark. show me a game that would use a dual core cpu and benefit from it and only then it would make sense

And COD2, but then agian, with performance improvements like this, you'd expect them in those games as well, which in case you didn't check the benchmarks, then didn't...

Agreed. I have a Socket 754 3700+ so I'm doubly screwed in 3DMark because I have no dual channel bandwidth and no dual core. I only score ~1000 in the CPU test but my gaming performance is fine:

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3001493

So basically I'm going to uninstall 3DMark06 tonight and never look at it again. Kind of like 3DMark05 and 03.....

If you're bothered by it using a cpu dependency benchmark then why simply ignore it and only take the gpu section into consideration?

lol....i only wanna know if my system's performing as it should =P

i already said that i don't plan to buy a dual core processor, at least not till conroe comes out!

Going from a venice @ 1.8 to a dual opteron @ 2.6 I went from 4666 to 7208 marks in 06. This was with 2x 7800gts. CPU makes a huge difference.

k...that does it, so my system is indeed performing normally

btw...lol...your dual gts score is higher than what i get with my two 7900 gtx even when oced
