Wow! That is some crazy nice work by Sampsa (see post #149). Score was done with CPU @ 3.6GHz, GPU @ 870MHz, and Mem @ 976MHz. Hopefully replacing the dry ice with LN2 will allow the gpu to oc a bit more.

Disclaimer: This thread is not about ATI vs. Nvidia at all. Any allusions to such are made completely upon the imaginations of the person reading the post.

While I think 3dmark is useless, I do enjoy their overclocking. Im an avid overclocker, even used phase-change+watercooling in one monster (imo) PC. But its nothing like they do. I guess I like my fingers too much.

But he's probably getting artifacts, he was even getting artifacts on 2D! I mean, that's a "fake" score, IMO. It has nothing to do with how well it plays games.

The score, or the clock speeds?

As far as clock speeds are concerned, that's what ATi has excelled it. ATi does it by brute force, nVidia does it by technology (not to say that ATi's memory management isn't technology, because it's very impressive).

I believe that he owns or works for a Finnish magazine.

He was getting artifacts at 1000MHz in 2D. I'm not sure if he got them at 870MHz in 3D or not. I don't know if I'd call it a fake score though. I'll bet all the top scores on the orb artifacted like crazy when they made their runs.

Benchmarks like these don't mean a whole lot to the average user who doesn't have access to exotic cooling and doesn't want his game artifacting. They are mostly just to give the hardcore overclockers a good time and maybe show the potential of different cards/systems.

I'll check later..not finding anything right out of the shoots (and searching XS' forums), but I'll find somethin. :p If I can hit 9500 on air with mine, I gotta think 10k has been broken with a 7800 already.

Here are the 3DMark05 rankings over at Xtremesystems.org where I'm sure the top scores are kept. I count five 7800GTX's in the 10,000+ range. I'll search around and see if there's anything higher. It would be nice to know if those scores were accomplished using the LOD tweak or not.

800+mhz core, 512mb of memory near 2ghz effective....

These things are much faster than entire PC's only a few years ago.

Isn't Futumark's GPU-focused benchmarks released each two years ?

We might see a 3DMark07 sometime late 2006 or early 2007. We had '01, '03, and now '05. Followng this trend leads me to believe next one will be '07.

It's just 3dmark. its not a game. and most people wont be able to do uber OCing.

impressive score nonetheless though
