ok.....i just ran 3DMark on my new computer. Here are my scores:

3DMark05 Score: 942

GT1 - 2.5fps
GT2 - 3.4fps
GT3 - 6.3fps

CPU Score: 1029

CPU Test 1 - 0.6fps
CPU Test 2 - 0.8fps

Here is my setup

amd 64 3000+ (754)
leadtek 6600gt agp
chaintech vnf3-250 mobo
1gig crucial vs
sb live! value
wd se 80gig hd
antec tru380 psu

i knew something had to be wrong when i tried to play splinter cell (which came with the 6600gt) and got some hitching in the intro video/audio.

on a side note (don't think its really related), when i reviewed my system info on 3DMark's website, they said i had a 939 cpu, which is definitely not true.

HELP!!!!

I can tell you that you need to patch splinter cell up to version 1.31 or so and it works much better. I've got the leadtek 6600GT pci express which also came with Splinter Cell.

I assume you've got all the latest drivers loaded...? Not sure what else to suggest.

I was playing around with my Asus A8V with the Via K8T800 chipset and tried running 3dMark2005 with the MS AGP drivers at got a 989, with the Via agp drivers I get 3155. The moral of the story is to try installing the chipset drivers, it can make a HUGE difference.

ok....i know this is a noob question, but where would i download that from? nvidia or chaintech?

The chipset manufacturer usually has newer drivers than what you will find on either the cd or the motherboard website...

thanks for the advice Ryland. i installed the chipset drivers and my new score is much better.

3DMark05 Score: 2923

GT1 - 11.9fps
GT2 - 8.8fps
GT3 - 15.3fps

CPU Score: 3880

CPU Test 1 - 1.9fps
CPU Test 2 - 3.6fps

You think that is bad, look at my work machine:

Savarak, if you are overclocking, are you bumping up the FSB at the expense of latency? The Athlon 64 thrives on low latency more than high bandwidth on benchmarks that are not bandwidth limited. This is why I run DDR400 @ 2-2-2-5-1T and overclock with the multipler on the FX.

Different memory and motherboard brands could also have an effect.

For some reason, my Gigabyte K8NS-PRO motherboard won't handle 2 sticks of 512 DDR400 ram(3-4-4-8-1T... from Fry's, some cheapo OCZ version on sale) at 200mhz. If I force it in bios to be 200mhz, I get frequent crashes/pauses and sometimes BSODs... but if I force my ram to start at 166 and overclock my CPU's FSB to 239mhz, it becomes stable with the ram at 199mhz according to CPU-Z(strange, I thought 233fsb would make it 199mhz, but apparently not).. mostly I run now at 235mhz(ddr at 196mhz). Ideally I'd like to overclock both the CPU and RAM, but with this cheap gig'o'ram, I can't do much about it. Maybe someday I'll find some 2.5 or 2cas ram cheap, but for now, especially since i've recently upgraded to the 6800gt, funds are short.

I also got a new 6600gt and at first the newer nvidia demos ran like crap. I then changed the AGP memory allocation setting in the BIOS from 64 MB to 256 and it now runs 50 times better. My score in 3DMarkk05 is 3076. I get 40 fps in doom3 timedemo at 1280*1024 on high, which I think is a little low compared to benchmarks I have read on sites. My old Pentium 4 2100 Ghz and 4x AGP motherboard is probably whats holding me back.
