I am totally unfamiliar with 3Dmark scores and what they mean...

on my dual core AMD 64 X2 3800+ Sli NF4 system...I would like someone
who might help explain to me what to look at, look for and how to decipher
the report...

I won't post it now...the 3DMark score report (lengthy) I'm not a heavy gamer or anything...I just wondered if someone would help me on this

thanks in advance

Honestly, I would pay zero attention to the score that 3DMark gives you. It's basically for people who would like enlarge their e-peen. But if you must know... the higher the number the "better" the system. I'm sure you've noticed this already though...

while some may consider 3dmark a waste of time others such as myself find it useful for judging if my system is running correctly plus i use it for quick stress testing of my system. what you need to do is use the online result browser (orb) to compare your system to others who have submitted their scores. that way you get a reading on if your system is running correctly.

Exactly. Using 3dmark as a tool for describing the card's gaming power is nonsense. My 4870 scores in 3dmark 2006 just as much as my old 8800 GT did, but in games is way faster then the GT.

It's also a useful tool for tweaking. If you tweak part of your computer, upgrade the ram or CPU or GPU, an increase in your 3DMark score means something in your system is now running faster and that is a good thing.

Sure a 10% increase in 3DMark does not mean your apps will performance 10% better, but they will perform better to some non-zero percentage and it won't ever be a negative percentage either.

I don't believe it. Something's wrong with your 4870 then. My 2 7950GTs in SLI only scored 9700 whilst my 8800GTs in SLI score 17800 and your 4870 is almost as powerful as 2 8800GTs.:)
