3dmark is a game!

The game will feature several chapters.

Chapter 1 - Break into a secret building, destroying any leather clad henchmen in your way. Learn of the Troll.
Chapter 2 - Find and enter the Troll's Lair and destroy the evil monster.
Chapter 3 - Escape the Lair by hitching a ride on a butterfly while you have wild air battles to escape the forest.
Chapter 4 - After escaping from the forest, you leave the earth's orbit on your butterfly and enter an asteroid field. Escape from the field unharmed, and dock with Proxycon.
Chapter 5 - Join the battle you find raging at Proxycon. Defend the ship down to the last man. Protect the remaining survivors so they can get into escape pods.
Chapter 6 - Take an escape pod back to Earth. After a splashdown in the middle of a valley, hitch a ride with an airboat while dodging a vile water serpent behemoth.
Chapter 7 - The airboat drops you off in the Arctic. Find evidence about your past before the sun sets.
Chapter 8 - Evidence of your origin points back to Proxycon. Return to the normal world.
Chapter 9 - Upon returning back to where you began, you find the town under attack by a Dragon. You must battle and tame him.
Chapter 10 - Use your newly tamed dragon to ride back to space and return to Proxycon.
Final Chapter - Retake the ship and rediscover your past.

I don't know if your outline is real or made up, but either way - it's better than the story lines of a lot of games that have gotten made and released.

Dude it's all of the 3dmark videos rolled into one... This thread should come with a disclaimer: keep sarcasm and wit detectors on!

I should have added a chapter about a naval battle by the docks....2000 needs some love too 😉

But will ATi cards win?

Yes, but only when using canned benches... during actual gameplay Nvidia cards will magically pull ahead.

Is that a reference to that one guy's post in that one thread that I can't remember?

Yes, and in general, I'm poking at the NVOCP reviews where that usually seems to be the case, despite other reviews showing opposite results.

i guess their writers are also on strike 😛

and this way they don't have to do anything but link their benchmarks and make it playable
-i get it 😛

3DMark06 DOES have a game included ... for sure in the pro version ... and i think 05 had some cows you could shoot

What's the game about? Getting the highest score in 3DMarks?

Haha, it should be like an arcade game with a list of top ten high scores.

Maybe I'm not getting it, but I would think that a program called 3DMark from a company called FutureMark should be a highly graphics intensive benchmark that places incredible focus on stressing the gpu. Do we need another game for sites to benchmark? There are already too many games out for review sites to be able to do a comprehensive benchmark of even the most popular titles.

Personally, I'd like to see 3DMark be a highly scripted benchmark (so as to minimize cpu dependence) that came out with the latest DX and OpenGL standards before any games came out that take advantage of the latest APIs. The idea of it not being a game is that it's a synthetic benchmark that benchmarks gpus against each other on APIs that games will only actually use in the future. The reason it shouldn't be a game is so development can be done more rapidly than a game, so the benchmark can stay ahead of the curve. I think making it a game just pushes it further away from being a gpu benchmark. I personally felt that 3DMark06 was already way too cpu dependent to make it a relevant "3D" benchmark.

+2, though the average readers ability to discern sarcasm seems rather poor today.

True this would make it a better program to compare video cards to one another, but it would be less indicative of real world performance. I know you are asking for a middle ground, but a person with an overclocked quad core should have a much higher score than a slower dual core.
