3dmark crashing

I just built a new system yesterday consisting of a dfi lanparty nf3 ut board, 64bit 3000+, 2x512 of corsair valueram 3200, radeon 9600xt videocard, 200gb maxtor ide drive, a soundblaster audigy 2 platinum zs audio card and a thermal take 480w PSU powering it all.

I tried running 3dmark05 and I get a rating of 1500 (horrible) and I get a max of 15 fps and sometimes all the way down to 1 fps. I tried to run 3dmark03 and I get 80-150fps on the first game and less than 10fps on the second test. Sometimes it will crash back to windows on the first test others it will crash after the second test. It doesnt play sound on either utility, is it supposed to?

I downloaded all the driver update for the motherboard, video card and the sound card. I did all the windows updates. I flashed the bios. All did absolutly nothing. I ran memtest86 for 12 hours last night without any errors so the memory isnt the issue.

My cpu temps are at 37-39c idle to 49c under load cooled with a Thermal Take Venus 12 HSF.

I also asked this here http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=1425121&forumid=1 but I decided this category was more relevant.

What do you guys think I should try next. Or any known issues any can think of?

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

I know the video card isnt top of the line but I didnt think it was that slow. I mean crashing is a little extreme for being a year old. Also wouldnt memtest86 test the memory fine? I will be running prime95 tonight anyways.

Also it is not overclocked at all. I left everything alone until it is working correct. So wouldnt the memory voltages and timings be fine?

just ran a quick test on a system I'm dealing with right now;

3.2Gig P4, 2GB ram, Asus P4C800, Asus FX5200 Video card (slightly lower spec than the 9600XT ??)

3D Mark03
Game 1 85fps
Game 2 7fps
Game 3 6.4fps
Game 4 8fps
Overall score 1493 3D Marks

If you're getting 1500 ~ 1600 scores then thats probably about right.

I am getting that on 3dmark05. I cant even run 3dmark03 without it crashing. I am more worried about the fact that it keeps crashing.

What do you guys think I should get for a new video card. I really don't know anything about videocards and there are so many manufacturers and chipsets. I was thinking maybe a GeForce 6800 (base model) but I have no idea for the manufacturer of it.

Thanks,
Nathan
