New 3DMark up at madonion.

Madonion

Let the flame wars begin.

edit: Graphics are basically all the same with minor additions. There is one new scene for advanced pixel shader.

Mad Onion's site is really screwed up now. I can't get to my Project Manager or the compare pages at all..

i d/l-ed it...

i don't know...just for the fun of it...but it seems like the old one..nothing that i noticed is changed...

and i can't get to their "Online Result Browser" to compare results

woohoo! 230 KB/sec off the french mirror 🙂 although my GeForce2 Ti will probably still do terrible 🙁 just waiting for the GeForce4 Ti4200...

edit - ran 3DMark2001 SE and got a score of 4539 (up from 4322 with 3DMark2001), although I did upgrade from 256MB PC2100 to 512MB PC2100 since then (maybe that accounts for the score increase).

anyhow here's my specs:

Pentium 4 1.5GHz
Gainward GeForce2 Ti
512MB PC2100 DDR CL 2-3-3 Mushkin
ASUS P4B266-C

i think that's all the relevant stuff 🙂

I ran it at with my P4 2.0A @ 2200 and beat myP4 @ 2300 score with 9513 3DMarks. (see sig for p4@ 2300 score)

But the real bitch is, I went to publish it, and either the website is hosed, or the software isn't allowing me to publish my score.

Oh well, I'll wait until later tonight or tomorrow.

Just read over at reactorcritical that the new pixel shader test is for 1.4 only, so I guess only Radeon users get to see it.

Nope. The new pixel shader runs in either 1.4 or 1.1 and is called "Advanced pixel shader." I have a GF3 and see it fine. (Bunch of fish swimming in a lake)

It recognizes correctly new CPUs and polished some stuff. NOT necessary to d/l, but I'm doing it anyway 😛

Is it just me, or was there absolutely no hype surrounding the release of this latest version? 😱 Remember when 3DM2001 was coming out? We were all salivating in the aisles....people put up mirrors about 5 minutes after MadOnion released it for DL!

Will this Second Edition become the DeFacto 3D benchmark the way the other 3DM's have?

Because the only difference between original and SE is 20 second "advanced pixel shader demo" that shows reflective water. And bug fixes, of course.

Leon

Bug fixes? There are bugs in 3DM2001? Where? I never noticed......I DL'd it...but now I'm considering not even loading it up. I mean, if a score of "6,000" in 3DM2001SE can't be compared to the same score in the original 3DM2001, what's the point?

The scores should be within 3% and directly comparable (unless you have Kyro card). Advanced pixel shader test will not affect the score, just like regular pixel shader test.

Ahh, OK. Thanks. 🙂

Many people do not realize this. The 3DMark2K1 score is only based on the 4 game tests. None of the other tests count towards the score. You will notice that only the 4 game tests have a FPS counter.

i really don't think you're right about that...the output gives you scores on Fill Rate, High Poly Count, Environment and DOT3 Bump Mapping, Vertex Shader, Pixel Shader, Advanced Vertex Shader, Point Sprite...

although you don't get an FPS showing during those tests, it still gives you results for those tests.

You may want to RTFM 😉

<< 3DMark®2001 contains a number of tests divided into different categories. There are game tests, theoretical tests, feature tests and image quality tests (image quality tests are available only in the Pro version of 3DMark2001).

Game Tests
The game tests give the actual 3DMark score, which is the standard measurement of PCs' 3D game performance. When running the game tests, 3DMark2001 keeps track of the frame rate and calculates an average frame rate after the test is run.

The 3DMark overall score is based on the four game tests only. For more information, see the benchmark results section.
